Description

New crosshairs for all weapon types (except grenade launcher) in third-person. I've never really liked the look of the vanilla crosshairs either design-wise or functionally, so my goal with this was to create a set of new-ish designs that offer a relatively consistent and more visually-pleasing third-person aiming experience. 



Installation

Comes in loose file form so that you can choose which ones you want, and modify them more easily. Install in DataPC_Resources_patch_01, as you would any other mod (refer to the description of basically any other mod page if you don't know how to do this yet), and then repack. 

Works perfectly fine with mods that alter reticles like Realistic Reticles at Ghost Recon Breakpoint Nexus - Mods and community (nexusmods.com)

Additional Notes

The crosshairs for every weapon type except the grenade launcher (both underbarrel and the MGL from the Terminator event/Engineer class) and various mounted weapons such as the minigun (stationary and on vehicles) seem to be programmatically assembled from a single image file (think of one "prong" of your average generic cross-style reticle), which is then drawn at various angles in order to form the cross. This allows the crosshair size to dynamically adjust to the weapon's accuracy stats (or at least that's what I think it's drawing from) and the player's movements. 

What this means currently is that I don't yet know whether it's possible to create the minimal "dot" reticle, commonly found in Rockstar's games, which a lot of people have an interest in. The only way I can figure this could be done right now is by identifying where in the engine certain weapon archetypes are being linked to certain crosshair types, and then swapping them all out for the grenade launcher's crosshair type. I don't know how to do this yet, and truthfully I don't know if it's actually possible with the current tools.

For anyone interested in making their own modifications:
  • Shotguns and LMGs share a component: the outer "brackets" of the shotgun's crosshair are repurposed into the centre of the LMG crosshair. Why they did this, I have no idea, but...
  • The crosshair for assault rifles is shared with that of DMRs. They don't have their own named folder, but instead are listed under 61443_-_UI_HUD_Crosshair_Line_Map.data.
