Inspired by the mod uploaded by Caine666, the AK-74 Troy Overhaul. I wanted to do my own version. I had intense OCD on having things exactly the way I wanted.

  • I wanted the gastube cover from the scout variant, but the rails at the same height. So imported the Scout variant handguard, deleted everything that wasn't gastube related, and joined it with the handguard for the Assault variant. The problem with that is that the straps that 'hold' the barrel up clips into the barrel, so in Blender, I stretched it so it would be flush with the barrel in both Assault and Scout variants' gastube cover. Another problem from the assault variant is that the gastube cover looks like it is floating if I wanted the same height from the scout variant. So I stretched the sides to be flush with the metal part that you can see on the other side shown in the picture, now it looks like that metal part is holding up the gastube cover(Yes, my OCD brain thought of this). Slight issue is that I don't know how to work textures, so the side looks ever so slightly stretched out, not too noticeable in my opinion, even if I do have OCD.
  • Funny issue is that out in the open world, the game uses slightly less detailed version of the weapon models compared to the gunsmith one, and I noticed that the barrels for the Assault and Scout variant don't reach into the receiver. They simply made the model for the vanilla AK-74 thought they can simply reuse the asset for the Assault and Scout ones. So what I did imported the model from the highly detailed gunsmith version, hacked away parts enough until until what was left was the missing part for the in-world model, and joined it with that in-world model in Blender.
  • Wanted the Zenitco pistol grip from the AK-47 Assault variant. But swapping stuff with the BuildTables messes with positioning and the skeleton. Using build tables. I tried swapping the AK-74's AK Podium with the AK-47 Zenitco grip, the in-game world looks fine, but for some reason, the gunsmith view had the grip so far back from Ak74's trigger. So, the Blender way it is, not much to say other than a simple swap of the models in Blender, then matching it with the skeleton worked fine. Took some fine tuning of the Zenitco's position to fit better for the AK-74, nothing with a little help from ChatGPT on how to use Blender couldn't fix.
  • I kind of liked the look of the survival version, but Caine666's mod changed the camo for it. In any case, with my modifications, the survival's pistol cloth wrap, and gastube cloth wrap/wires clips with my models. So in Blender, I just removed the cloth wraps and wire wrap, but kept the wrap of the stock. No major issues.
  • No UI swap for the new model look, I don't know how everyone is getting such good vanilla-looking pictures of their new model for the UI. Is it just taking an in-game screenshot from the gunsmith view?
  • TL;DR: I wanted a certain look for the AK-74 Assault/Scout/Survival, so I spent days learning Blender and talking with ChatGPT to mod the weapons in a way that I wanted. Gastube cover, not-ugly pistol grip, and fixed tiny details that my OCD brain couldn't get over.

Installation Instructions:
  • You need AnvilToolkit.
  • Extract DataPC_Resources_patch_01.forge file with AnvilToolkit.
  • Extract my files, and put them in the folder that was created, ../Extracted/DataPC_Resources_patch_01.forge ('DataPC_Resources_patch_01.forge' is the folder name, same name as the source file). There should be 17 more files in that folder, and since the files were from the original DataPC_Resources (the 22 gig one), there should be zero files to replace(easy for uninstalling). How I structured the zip file, the files are in the folder that they belong to... that should make sense. I'm basically saying, when all is said and done, inside your folder of 'DataPC_Resources_patch_01.forge', there should not be another folder called 'DataPC_Resources_patch_01.forge'
  • Repack the your folder DataPC_Resources_patch_01.forge using AnvilToolkit.

Un-installation Instructions:
  • Delete the 17 files in the previously extracted, the files prefix number in front of the name are all really big compared to the rest of files i the folder, so it should be really easy to scroll to the bottom of the list and select the 17 files to delete.
  • Repack the folder, DataPC_Resources_patch_01.forge

Note: If somebody wants my *.glb files for Blender, I can upload those too at some point.
