How to install the mods.

For Steam users, navigate to your Steam Dashboard, Library, right click on Generation Zero, Properties, click on Set Launch options..., copy
exactly the text below and paste it (without the quotes).  "--vfs-fs dropzone --vfs-archive archives_win64/initial --vfs-archive
archives_win64/supplemental --vfs-archive archives_win64/optional"  Click OK to complete the process.

If that doesn't work try this one copy and paste: (without the quotes, and make sure there is a space between the letter "s" and the "." at the end).   "--vfs-fs dropzone --vfs-archive archives_win64/initial --vfs-archive archives_win64/supplemental --vfs-archivearchives_win64/optional --vfs-fs ."


After you had configured Steam by adding the launch option, make sure to logout (not just close Steam but logout) and login again at least once and recheck if the launch text still exists. For your information, Steam offers the "Launch Option" to accommodate customized options including mods as there are many games on Steam that support mods and each game will a different launch text if required.

Always recheck if this launch option text still exist the first time you activated AACA. Check it again if you reactivated any
AACA, which you had deactivated or deleted previously. The account creation tend to frequently remove this launch option text.

To install, open the mod archive you have downloaded with
Winrar, 7zip, or Winzip, drill down the folder to find and drag or drop the dropzone folder into your Generation Zero folder usually located at *.*\Steam\steamapps\common\Generation Zero, and allow it to overwrite (in case you already have a pre-existing dropzone folder.) 

Many mods use the same filenames and will overwrite one another so you must decide which one you want to use (check the exact filename you are installing. You can request the mod creator to merge his mods with another.

NOTE: The drag and drop will ask permission to overwrite even if the final filenames are different because the "dropzone" folder name is the same for every mod.

To uninstall, ensure that you have fully exited the game,  rename the dropzone folder to any name you want or delete it all together. If you only want to disable a particular mod just rename it. Do this only when the game is not active.

Incompatible or non-updated mods can cause or exacerbate game crashes and other problems.
When the game is updated most mods need to be updated too. Temporarily rename the dropzone folder to disable all mods or selectively rename each folder to disable them. Wait for mod updates. The carry-weight and storage folder called "settings" are usually not affected by game updates.

My Generation Zero Non-Combat Helper Mods are designed primarily to reduce artificial difficulties imposed by the game or results of erroneous calculations. I must admit that some aspects of non-combat modifications could also be utilized as combat helper, to some extent, but not to the point of breaking the fun and  challenges offered in the game. Mods are recommended for use on single player.

What to do if game updates? Temporarily rename the dropzone folder to deactivate mods. Wait for updates.
Are mods the causes of crashing/kicking out in multiplayer? No. These are frequent issues even before the first mod was created.

You can straight away edit your savegame file with a hex editor like Hex Editor New or free HxD (press ctrl+g to open window to paste hex address). The new starting hex address as of May update is "e0" not "d0" as shown on the video. Also the hex address to input the number of skill you want is now at "3a0" not "390". You can easily do this in less than 5 minutes after you've done it for the first time. The edit is for the first character. Other character have different hex address.

🛑 You can install together: Carry-weight storage mod, 2 or 3 skill points level up and 60 seconds sprint and fast recovery mods will not overwrite each other. Marksman mod has versions combined with 2 or skill points so you can install it together with carry-weight and storage and 60 seconds sprint mods.

🟡Carry weight and/or Storage Limits mods.
The default game limits makes QOL (Quality of Life) of players miserable.

The game carry weight indicator will not show the modded value and will still turn red once you go over the default carry-weight limits,  however, you can still sprint and fast travel.Once you go over modded limits, the movement, fast travel and storage encumbrances will kick in. Have fun. For storage, the limit indicator will correctly show the modded value.

So far carry weight and storage mods have proven compatible even after so many game updates, however, if the game developers change its mechanics, these mods will likely need updating, too.

What happens if you uninstall the carry weight/storage/recycling mod or when it becomes incompatible with a game update?
1. Storage/Recycling. Your over-storage/recycling station capacities will be retained, however,  you can only take out things from pundra and recycling station
but can't bring in anything as you are already over the limits. Once you are within or below the game's default limits you will be able bring in new things again.
2. Carry-weight. You will not be able to move or fast travel until you can drop enough items to reach within or lower than the default game carry weight limits.
The stats may or may not show correctly until the actual limits are reached.

🟡2 or 3 Skill Points per Level up mod
Another QOL issue is the game's limits of 30 skill points, level 31 cap and no skills reset function. Meantime you can use this mod is an option. This will give you 2 or 3 skill points every time you level up, or a total of 60 skill points instead of the default 30, or 84, which is not enough to activate all of the most important skills you would need to even up the odds against the bots. 

This will only affect new level up you earned and does not affect skill points you already have.
We had one report that a player who activated the mod when he was already at level 13 had his game crashed  the first time the 3 level up point kicked in at level 14 and crashed again for every leveling up thereafter. The cause of the problem: the player failed to follow install guide to logout (not just close Steam but logout) and login again at least once after placing the launch text option and recheck if the launch text still exists.

FAQ: Why did I not just provided 60, 84 or 87 skill points at once? Because I want players to still experience earning for them and not make it a complete freebie.

Download 2 skill Points mod version 2.
It will give you a total of 60 points.

It will give you a total of 84 points (3 points short of activating all skills).

The first 3 points will be
given when you hit level 4 and your skill points will start to exceed the 2 skill points version when you reach level 9. If you really want to have 87 points to activate all skills, use the 2-points level until you reach level 3 (when you have 4 points), save the game by fast traveling and opening storage, exit game to desktop, replace the 2-skill with the 3-skill points version, which should give additional 3 points once you reach level 4.

My third QOL mod allows you to sprint for 60 seconds (instead of the game's annoying default of a few seconds).
It will give you a better chance to temporarily retreat from battle or to out-maneuver you opponents. To rebalance this longer sprint, it will take you just as long to fully recover your stamina when you stop briefly and continue to walk or jog, just as the game default settings. However, you stamina will recover 25% faster than the game default if you stop walking or jogging for about 2 seconds. This mod can still be improved if you spend points on Stamina Amount, Stamina Recharge Rate and Run Speed skills.

🟡Marksman mods ( all versions include 2 skill points level up, except the Standalone). For KVM, PVG and N60 US machine gun (Soviet sniper rifle not included - I don't have the DLC.)

Someone asked why didn't I just totally remove recoil  and bullet scatter. Answer: I wanted the weapon to behave close to the real weapons. What kind of a weapon fitted with a bipod but still swings and recoils as if there were no bipod support at all. I could have reduced recoil, sway and bullet scatter for other weapons, but I did not because they didn't have bipod.

Another frequently asked question is "Why didn't I increase weapon damage, ammo damage, rate of fire and other directly-related damage  factors?" Answer: My intention is not to ruin the immersion players could experience from the game but improve immersion and QOL by reducing some artificial difficulties.

It is called "Marksman" because you can now enjoy the benefits from the Marksman specialization (less recoil and bullet spread, and zero sway as if you have activated Marskman specialization) without spending a single point on marksman tree. This will allow you to activate another specialization, Vanguard (for 25% damage resistance) without worrying about weapon sway and others.
You can still spend points on marksman skills tree to improve it a bit, except the weapon sway, which is already maxed out, so don't spend any point on it, Honestly it is not recommended to spend any point on the marksman tree.

🟡 Marksman Standalone.  (Reduces recoil, bullet scatter and has zero sway for included weapons)
Marksman-Combo 1.
Marksman combined with:

- 2 skill points level up
- 5secs hack cooldown instead of 60sec and 80-160secs hack duration instead of 20-40 (spend 1 or 2 points to enable). The 5sec cooldown increases your chance to hack bigger bots. Ex: Quickly hack and rehack a tank about 3-5 times immediately after the 5sec cooldown passes)
- 240-300secs enemy marking duration (spend 1 or  2 points to enable).
Marked enemies take additional 10% damage if you add and activate Designated Target skill within the Support Skills Tree. 
🟡 Marksman-Combo 1 Plus Gases Protection 50. Combined with 50% gas-vraken mask (default gas protection is 20%. To activate fit yourself with any gas mask or Vraken pilot gear mask). Radiation-Biological protection appears to not work.
🟡 Marksman-Combo 1 Plus Gases Protection 75. Combined with 75% gas-vraken mask (default gas protection is 20%. To activate fit yourself with any gas mask or Vraken pilot gear mask)

🟡Customized Scenario Savegame File
This "customized scenario" can be played in solo or multiplayer session with or without mods.

About 85% of missions remains untouched. You practically have all attire, schematics, weapons, ammo and crafting materials. The first version storage is around 30,000 so you can't store new things. If you remove items and reached normal limits, it will stay at 200 default unless you use a mod. The second version carry-storage have normal limits. You can use the Insanity mode with this savegame file if you want to respawn reaper quickly or if  you want the game to be more difficult..

This is recommended for those who have completed the game at least once because the save file has 65 of 72 achievements already unlocked which will be credited to you once you open the file but WILL NOT REMOVE any of your existing achievements (if you really want to reset your achievements to what it was before, please email me). You can still play missions that give achievements even if they are already unlocked. Achievements in this game is only decorative and will not affect your game (unlike Counter Strike: General Offensive). Generation Zero is not a Player vs Player (PVP) game and it is not listed as Valve Anti-Cheat game, so sharing of save files are allowed and not penalized.
Please backup your original savegame and savegame.bac files so you can replay your original game.

🟡Guerrilla Plus mod
This is recommended only for those who are familiar with the game, and wants
more challenge beyond the vanilla Guerrilla difficulty
. I recommend you use New Game Plus (will allow you to keep all of your
previous weapons, ammo and materials) when playing this version. See
guide how to configure play New Game Plus: Generation Zero: Start a new game and keep everything (weapons, bullets and items.)

Guerrilla Plus features:

  • Bots have extended range of awareness and will quickly react if you shoot at them, as well as use their weapons promptly.
  • Quickly level up region
  • Quickly level up rivals. The number of possible rivals have now been capped to the default 8. (previously it was 16 but older PCs have problem handling it.
  • Quickly spawn reaper and respawn at least 3-5 times on one region. To lessen
  • the chance of a reaper respawning one after another, destroy at least 2
    rivals to significantly lower region level before taking on the reaper.
  • Quickly activate and re-enable "Our New Home" mission one after another. The
  • bots for this particular battles are still generally stupid.
    * You must be on Guerrilla difficulty mode when playing this version.
    * This will overwrite marksman and 2 or 3 skills per level up mods.
    * Use this on new game (recommended). You can also use on existing game progress.
    * Safe to remove or uninstall anytime. Do not install or remove while game is running.


🟡Insanity Difficulty mod.
Download insanity mod.
You must start a fresh, new game and you must play on guerrilla mode to experience the mod's full effect. If you wish to keep your weapons and ammo from your previous game play, please follow this guide.
This mod has higher AI capability than the Guerrilla Plus mod and the number
of leveled rivals are increased from default 8 and cannot be reverted
back to default once they are spawned even if you uninstall this mod.
No need to start a new game if you are already using the Guerrilla Plus mod.

This can be used to generate an customized scenario which can be played later with or without mods.  Example: The some 300 rivals shown on the map below can be played without mods, although it was generated with the help of mods. However the improved AI part of Insanity or Super Insanity mode will not take
effect. For that to get enabled the host must have active mods and the
rest of the players must 
at least have the launch text option enabled.

🛑I have begun developing Insanity Plus or Super Insanity mod to rebalance the game, especially now that shock ammo and explosive ammo have made the bots a lot easier to kill.
Please email me your feedback about Guerrilla Plus difficulty so I can include them as features of the  Insanity Plus or Super Insanity mod. 

You are welcome to use the Super Insanity mod to generate a Customized
Scenario, which you can play with your friends on multiplayer session
even without mods. However if you want to experienced a much improved
AI, I recommend you activate the AI part of the mod.

Quickly spawn a reaper.
If you have Apex account, open this application first but do not anything else. Launch the game, and wait until the main screen shows up. Activate this app as usual put x marks on the corresponding boxes. Start playing the game. If you accidentally exit the apps, exit the game and repeat process. 

Summary: (This summary is more recent than the one included in the download file.}
  1. Choose the region with the lowest regional level and the least number of rivals. Activate Max Region Level and Max Rival by clicking on the box or pressing space bar.

  2. Destroy around 3-5 machines to quickly max region level. It is during the maxing up of region level that reaper usually spawns. If reaper did not spawn after maxing up region level continue destroying several more non-rival machines or go to another low-score region and try it there. 

Reaper will not spawn on a region that already has 8 rivals. You must destroy at least one rival and make sure Max Region box enabled and Max Rival is disabled, otherwise another rival could spawned after you destroy a rival.
