I love GalCiv3 and for me viewing battles is part of the experience in becoming immersed in the game. Why have Star Destroyers, Klingon, Romulan, and Federation ships ( or why design your own ships) if you can't see them fight in a cinematic battle experience? I was disappointed when Stardock decided to spam the battle viewer with damage numbers and other text popups. These popups get in the way of the battle animations and ship movements as they popup over all animations and ship models during the battle. In small engagements it's not that much of an issue. If you have big fleets engaging then it totally ruins the experience by distracting you with a bunch of useless popups that don't tell the player what ship is firing and what ship is taking damage.
Players can already activate a battle log to display during the battle animations what ship is firing and if the target was hit and how much damage was taken, or if the shot missed. That battle log has been part of the game from the beginning and provides more detail about what's going on if players choose to activate it during battles. And of course players can also tell what ships are taking damage by how red the ships respective icons, off to the sides, become during the battle.
I think those pop up damage values and text would be better suited for a turn based combat game like Master of Orion 2. So I moded them out. No more damage value and text popups in the battle viewer.
The video I've included shows the text popups during the battles are gone. The video also shows some new weapon animations I've been working on for GalCiv3 BUT those weapon animations ARE NOT INCLUDED in this mod. I will include them in a separate mod when they are complete.
