This is a hard mod for Final Fantasy VIII 8 ff8

Permissions and credits
FF8 Battler - ff8battler final fantasy viii 8 hard mod

Summary:
HP-J bonuses were reduced on more powerful magics
Str-J bonuses were reduced on more powerful magics
A few GF Abilities with exploits and balance issues were changed to be learned at higher GF levels:  read below for details (potential spoiler)
Takes more xp to level - due to certain game mechanics, just avoids/delays level cap of chars (squall, etc)
Takes more AP to learn GF abilities:  slight difficulty + (Requires more battling hence the name  )

The game will not get much if any more difficult until about 1/3 way thru.  Due to the draw system this was necessary to avoid annoyance.
Lower HP-J bonus will make limit breaks more risky and possibly more infrequent depending on how you play.  Your chars will obviously have less HP.
Lower Str-J bonus will reduce physical damage obviously.
Remember this won't happen at the start for draw & frustration reasons.


Please read below all the way to bottom if you like details as earlier versions start at top and changes are listed downward.  Upper changes can be overwritten by lower ones.

If desired can dl older versions.   Not recommended tho

This  mod preserves the feel of the game and is not super hard but should get hard near the end.

This is a hard mod that makes leveling up chars and GFs and learning abilities take more XP & AP.

CHANGES:
-Char lv up now takes 50% more xp (1500 up from 1000)
-GF lv up now takes 50% more xp (750 up from 500 for most)
-Abilities take 50% more AP to learn
-Card mod requires higher GF level in order to learn ((a # between 6 and 30)) (changed from require learning "Card")

Planning to make a version without the last change when I get around to it.

Ideal mod for a repeat playthru =)

because of this your chars will start at a lower lvl. (5 down from 7)

(not uploaded yet) v0.72quez cm lv req was ((a # between 10 and 30)).  thoughts of changing gf xp req to 2X.  maybe next version

Update 0.72

Exp for lvl  up chars was changed to x1.6 (from 1.5)
exp for GF was changed to x1.8

some bugs in the editor last entry wont save.  click up from it before save
the char lvl modifier is set to 160.  (before 150, default 100
the gf lvl takes 900 xp for most. (500 default, 750 before)

Update 0.73 08/22/24
req for gf learn certain abilities was upped:
Str bonus, Mag bonus, and HP bonus were set to an elderly level
Vit bonus, Spr bonus were set to a midrange lvl
Auto-haste was set to a lower-mid level

why this was done?  Because clearly you can switch GFs (junction exchange) to exploit the bonus @ lvl up.

due to the level scaling in this game, which I was not super aware of at
start of making, this mod will not make the game much harder.  It will
definitely make it longer tho.  Much longer before you hit lvl cap.
Also this is due to the "draw" system of magic, which truly hard enemies would ruin the fun of the game.
In fact this mod may not make the game any harder at all in most cases,
while in other cases such as bosses it maybe a lot harder depending on
the minimum level of the monster in the level scaling data.  I think
generally, if min levels do exist, it should get harder at some point.
The point of the mod will now be to make the game longer, and balance obvious unbalances and exploits.
Due to acquiring powerful magic to junction the farther you get in the game, some enemies could be easier as well...
On a previous attempt at this mod Junction bonuses were reduced, this has not been done, but is now under consideration.

magic over 30 power Str-Junction was reduced.  (STR-J)
using (x - 30) x 1/2  + 30 , (round down).

this means about 8 magics that are higher in Str-J than Fir/Bliz/Thundaga.

this should make it a bit harder to max out the Squall char so easily once tornado becomes available...
its way too easy.

considering changing some GF str+40/+60 abilities to be harder to get.

all magic HP junction powers over 8 were reduced.  (HP-J)
the formula was 1/5:
((x - 8)) * .2 + 8    round nearest

This is a big reduction in later-game max HP which seems to balloon out of control otherwise.  Affecting/OP-ing squall char first of course like everything in this game.

these 2 JUNCTION-magic power changes should make the game harder =)
