About this mod

Tweaks on HP, Armor, and character stats to counter the overpower-ness granted by TZA version. Brings down the game to similar levels of difficulty the original game had.

Permissions and credits
This mod makes a few carefully thought modifications on HP, Armor, and stats to bring back the difficulty similar to the original game experience.

The entire game is balanced around some initial values and the main story progression was left mostly unchanged with International and The Zodiac Age, while boosting characters with the job system.

The exact changes are:

  • Less Strength and Magic both initially (2 fewer points at lvl 1) and during level progression (8 fewer points in each stat if you go all the way to 99). Partially counter the up to 16 Str/Mag you get through the job boards vs the 5 you got back in the vanilla game.

  • HP boosts from the board cut in half, with the same LP cost. HP natural growth is boosted up to about 600HP to every character at lvl 99 (is progressive). This is to avoid getting into several thousand HP early into the game.

  • Defense and Magic defense values from head and body gear more inline with the original values, but still a bit beefed up (you are locked into one-then up to two armor types though the game). As a clear example, the ultimate mystic body has 61 Defense on TZA, 40 on vanilla, with my mod, goes to 45.

To install the game:

1. Install using DrakLab as any other mod.

2. Inject "battle_pack.bin" file into "FFXII_TZA.vbf" using the "VBF Browser" tool: Drag and drop the battle_pack.bin file inside the "ps2data\image\ff12\test_battle\us\binaryfile" folder path.

Note:

To get the str and mag stat changes you have to start a new game, the HP changes, and the armor are readily available as you load any game with the mod active: you need to re-equip something the see the HP adjustments.
