About this mod
A guide on how to downpatch Fields of Mistria - especially if all your mods broke and you need to remove them from your save file to update.
- Permissions and credits
- Steam-copy of Fields of Mistria (must be legally owned)
- Steam must be online/open to download old game versions from their server
Steps to downpatch
- Open Steam in online mode.
- Hit Win+R and paste
steam://open/console
- While in your Steam console, paste
download_depot 2142790 2142791 3185675701843278131
- The down patched version will be installed
near where Steam games are installed by default on your own PC. For
example, C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\content\app_2142790\depot_2142791 - You need to replace the main game files with the old version that just downloaded, this is just due to how the
FieldsOfMistria.exe launcher works (it will always path to steamapp
files no matter which one you click on.) - Delete the files in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fields of Mistria except for the "mods" folder, if you have it
- Paste the old files you just downloaded from C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\content\app_2142790\depot_2142791 into C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fields of Mistria
- Hop in-game with your old mods, remove them from your save file (delete them out of your inventory, off your character, off your farm, etc.)
- Once you think your save file is cleared of old mods, you can update safely and run your save without the mods temporarily until they get updated again for the new version.
Number Breakdown
If you want a breakdown of what those numbers are:
- 2142790 - their store number identifier, called the app ID
- 2142791 - the public branch all players play on (as opposed to development branches or betas, things like that,) called the depot ID
- 3185675701843278131 - the identifier for the last patch, called the manifestation ID
Other Manifestation ID:
What is "down patching"?
"Down patching" is a term I have heard speedrunners use to describe how to
legally downgrade a patched game. I'm not entirely sure if it's a real
term or if it's widely used by speedrunners, but it's just meant to
describe finding a method to play an older version of a game. Often to
take advantage of previously patched glitches, bugs, exploits, time
saves (for speedrunning,) etc.
Down patching is completely legal if you own the license to a game, and Valve allows you to do so natively through
the Steam client.
