That was a nice campground intermezzo. You know how much - and which books - I read. I can easily see this in the middle of a combat zone. That be Vietnam or Ukraine. A morale booster. And maybe forgetting about the conflict - whatever it is - for a few moments. I checked the game and I cannot really see myself in it. But it is always interesting to be introduced to something I didn't know about

My parents talked many times about the bands and the "crooners" of the WWII era, never about the hardships of war. I'm sure it was a form of relief that everyone could share together because of radio. I found a piece of twisted aluminum in the attic one day and asked, what's this? That was from the [kamikaze] plane that sunk our ship. That's all he would say about it. Later, years later, he mentioned that he manned a 50 cal on deck and was firing on it the whole time but it still hit the ship. We got the other ones previously, but not that one that day. Said in a completely matter of fact tone.  He told me that once and never repeated it. He mentioned the ports they visited a couple times and a few other human interest sort of things, but never another word about combat.
Not true, I just remembered. He told me about a buddy who died next to him maybe while they were being strafed or the explosions, he didn't say. The only word on that was, so I laid him down on the deck and he died. My Dad never had a problem talking, saying what he thought about anything and everything. But the war, only two or three sentences.

And we complain when we're put on hold for 30 mins in a help desk call. Or the chef over cooks our steak.

Words to reflect on. And something I've "heard" more than a few times from FB friends. As much as I'd like to know, I've never had the courage to ask the very few times I've talked to a veteran - as in someone who's seen combat. "You cannot know unless you've walked a mile in his - or her- shoes." I really like this saying of yours.

I think Far Cry 5 is one of the best games ever made, especially story/character wise. After you've played FC5 two or three times you might want to consider the semi-sequel Far Cry New Dawn which isn't quite as good story wise but has delightful characters and even better gameplay (which is saying a lot).

I'm so happy you're playing FC5 and love your photos and film from it :)

Cool, good to know. I may have to ask for some tips along the way. Pat also got the game, and started playing last night.

Good one. You gotta break them in early. I've got a few patriotic t-shirts, but I don't have one of them -- yet. My last American flag t-shirt looked about like the one in the main image. The paint may crack and wear off, a little, but it didn't run.

This dance looks very touching and tender.. With a machine gun behind your back - this is a very good scene.. I have different feelings when I watch this short video. Wonderful, Laird)

Yeah, it's an indication that even during war, some parts of life go on. I remember the movies about WWII home life, there seems to be a lot of good music (swing, big band) and dancing in them. It wasn't that people were happy, but it took their minds away, at least for a little while, for some enjoyment. I never asked my parents about things like that. I wish I had. They did talk about the singers and big bands from that era, so yeah, I'm sure they got some relief from the music. Something they could share, even though they were half the world away from each other during the war.

It is great and I'm really enjoying it. I've been playing it non-stop. You can sleep when you get old. Um right, I am old. Well, who says you have to sleep?

Boomer is so cool! I love him and have him often roaming with me around Hope County!
If you want to improve your game graphics even more just install FC5 Resistance mod. It has many options in there including HD. Also a good Reshade would be very useful (i use UHG).
This game has so many wonderful landscapes, i think you will like it!

First, thanks for showcasing the game. I probably never would have noticed it, otherwise, and would not have it on my wish list. I took a peek at the nexus mods, and dl'ed FC5 Resistance. I'm doing this play through un-modded at Easy level. Next go-round, I'll take a better look at the mods.
Right now, I'm using GeForce Experience (aka Ansel) for in game play and photo enhancement. I have always had trouble getting ReShade to work ever since they moved away from SweetFX. I may try one more time.
The views from the helicopter and high vantage points are great. I've only taken a handful of shots so far, but will get into it soon.

Generally the game is poor regarding char creation and outfits but it compensates with the amazing scenery, the fun gameplay and the stories.
Also, if you try the winter mode of the game(in the FC5 Resistance mod), is like playing a different game.
Finally, the arcade posters offer some wonderful locations and adventures if you want to take a break from Montana.(just browse filtering them to show the most popular first.)

I viewed the loading screens in the Arcade, but haven't attempted to play it yet. Maybe after the initial excitement I'm feeling wears off. I see the video game kiosks for Arcade here and there, but I didn't get it about the posters. OK, big deal so you're really pushing this game within the game by plastering the walls with posters. Last night I finally noticed that you can click on the poster.

Thank you. Glad you liked it. The in-game photo capture is not so good, but it is adequate -- better than Witcher 3 or Red Dead 2. I don't know why the dev's don't simply give you a stop action command and a flying camera.( as in Bethesda games) I can do the photo-editing, post processing a lot better than the silly in-game picture editor.

I won't argue, they look so much better than vanilla FO4/Skyrim. Guess we get to watch you enjoy that world now, should be fun

The video is a great addition, I loved it

There are a few things they didn't do well like the animals and the furniture. Acceptable levels, especially if you compare the textures to the animals in Horizon Zero Dawn. (they did the mechanical "animals" quite well, but not the real animals) Yeah, I'll try not to bore you with too many pix.
That couple dancing is a good juxtaposition of normal life somehow finding a way to break through all of the bloodshed and death.

The graphics look pretty darn good to me (I've seen worse ) and anything with a guns and dog buddy has got my attention.   I was gifted this at Christmas, so I might have to take it for a whirl.

Yep, dog buddies. But where are the cat buddy movies or games? Harry and Tonto, I suppose, but there weren't any guns. I think you will enjoy it.

Well, there you go. Good story line. A little contrived to imagine that a "religious" cult could become so powerful, but that's OK.  It plays well, no crashes yet, and is fairly easy to pick up. All of the mouse/keyboard commands are consistent with other PC games. I'm getting better at driving cars, and helicopters, but airplanes -- that's gonna take some more (a lot more) practice.
