Elegos Closed Alpha - Testers Required

  • Comment

“So, do you want to overthrow the royalty or work to stand with us?”
Decide for yourself by joining the Closed Alpha of Elegos - a moddable RPG - playtesting now!

We’ve partnered with Perpetual Games who are making an open-world RPG with modding at its front and centre! Today, Elegos is moving into the Closed Alpha playtesting phase. With this comes an open invitation to anyone in the community who would like to try out an early build of the game, so that your feedback can help guide their development. Here’s a bit from them:

We’re Perpetual Games, a new UK based studio made up of a concentrated team of developers, designers, artists and more working to develop our first title, Elegos. We are passionate about modding and many of us have a background of working within the modding community. Our debut release will continue the great work with this community by creating a game that is designed with modding and community in mind from the ground up.

Elegos is a game crafted to be fun to play and fun to play with.

That’s why we’ve teamed up with Nexus Mods and why we want you! You know modding, so who better to get involved? Our Closed Alpha is only the beginning of what will be possible with modding in Elegos as every system, mechanic and feature is being designed with modding in mind.

We wanted to enable players to shape the world of Elegos in any way they desire. Our modding-first approach from early on in our development ensures this, paving the way for the community to have direct involvement with innovations in creativity, accessibility and inclusivity.

Breaking down the entry barriers to modding is also important to us, which is why we’re designing tools that are easy and fun to use for the player, even when they don’t have a technical background.

All of this does take time, and we will be continually updating the capabilities that are available to the player. So for now, you can see the skeleton of our modding system, Primodial, in the game menu of the Closed Alpha and you can also find our modding roadmap on our wiki

What is Elegos?

“Want to overthrow the sovereignty or work to stand with them? Decide for yourself in Elegos, an immersive first-person RPG where every action matters. Designed with a flexible play system, forge your own unique path through a world where complex political forces clash. Take up arms, dabble in forbidden magic, pursue your enemies from the safety of the shadows, or try and talk yourself into the ranks of the nobles.”

Elegos is an immersive first-person RPG, being built in partnership with Nexus Mods. Set in an alternate history at the time of Alexander the Great, the world of Elegos is largely populated by intelligent mythological creatures, known as Mytha. Tasked with uncovering the mystery of your past while surviving to see the future, how your story entangles with Mytha and Man is up to you.

How to get started with testing Elegos

  • Click the above link and complete the sign-up form.
  • Redeem your unique Steam code that will be sent to you from the Perpetual Team.
  • Give Elegos’ Prologue a test, and leave us your feedback.

By pressing F1 at any time in the Alpha build, you’ll be able to access a feedback page without leaving the game. This will send us your thoughts alongside a screenshot of whatever you were looking at when you hit the button - perfect for when you spot an NPC glitching into a wall.

The next best way to share your feedback is to join our Discord community. There you’ll find our Closed Alpha category, where you can share thoughts, flag any bugs you find, and chat with fellow testers.

We’re excited to see what you think of Elegos and what ideas you’ll bring to the game when we’re ready to launch our modding capabilities. Keep your eye out for future playtests too,  as we're already excited to implement your feedback and improve the game.

With that out the way, you can head into Elegos and begin your journey.

Its such a shame the project was shut down, could have been really interesting.

Hello @everyone. Sorry for the comms blackout the last few months, it’s been a strange and difficult time for all those involved with the project. As you’ve probably come to suspect by now, the Elegos game project has had come to an end.

I am personally grateful to the entire team and every single person that has added to this project. Everyone brought something special and I can’t thank them enough for their expertise, their hard work and their enthusiasm. It’s been an absolute blast building something with you all and it’s a shame that as it stands right now, so much amazing work won’t be seen by the public.

For four years now we’ve worked with this project close to our hearts, and for many working on the project this was their first. Plenty of passion has gone into it and it is with great sadness and fond memories we bring this to an end.

I also want to thank you, the community, for being a driving force these last couple of years; it’s been an absolute pleasure interacting with you all and including you in the process.

    Thank you for everything.

Man this sounds promising. Im curious how you will walk the knives edge between modability and handling mods that are too powerfull/feel like cheats.

It's your choice how you want to mod you game.  Why in the word would a game developer want to infringe on that?  It serves no purpose.  Why do you care if someone cheats in their single player game?

There's sometimes a benefit to curating an experience, i.e. the Souls Franchise which probably would not be as popular if players could turn on an easy mode. It depends on what type of experience the game is meant to give.

@thenasty: I disagree - people who like to setup extreme OP are the only ones who would make use of such features.

People who prefer more challenge will never use them.

Realize that all the Mass Effect games, WItcher 3, etc.. etc... have mods that allow a user to become absurdly OP - and it certainly did nothing to harm the massive sales and popularity... if anything, for those types who hate losing, simply suck at the games or don't have the time/patience, it must make such games imminently more playable (for them) and thus makes an otherwise too difficult/time-consuming game something they'll be able to enjoy.

I think that games that interfere with such mods (or actual mods that overly restrict) simply do not appeal to this group at all..
and again, folks who wouldn't want cheats at all will simply scoff and ignore such single-player-cheat mods.

ALL souls games have easy mode busted broken mods to help you. Or just straight up an "easy mode" mod. Just like Elden Ring, someone decided the game wasn't easy enough as it is and went ahead and made an even easier mode... all you gotta do is get levels in that game it's so easy it's absurd, the only way you find the game hard is if you're underleveled.

Cheating only occurs when there's competition. When one side has an advantage that the other side does not. If this were a game with adversarial gameplay between players, then there would be a problem.

Other than that the only person you're in competition with is yourself. Because of this you decide what is cheating for yourself when playing against yourself.

in the real world, we spend a lot of effort to include those that can be designated as handicapped in some way.  My constant dependency on some form of cheats to me is a form of assistance that helps me enjoy the game more fully and in a more competitive way.  As in all things the choice should be the players to balance the power in the cheats.  If I go too far the lack of any challenge ruins the experience and if I don't use enough I can't even make any movement forward along the path of improvements of the character.

Agreed. I honestly don't get the idea of forcing FPS perspective in a genre that is all about gear, customization, etc.

It is nice to be able to see yourself, even if I rarely use such a feature. Playing Skyrim VR did make me realize how often I went third person just to gaze at my dragonborn on top of various high places...

Please note that this is an ALPHA... not beta of the game being developed.

I saw this game on Steam back in April and requested a key. I played around with it for approximately 20-30 minutes and decided it still needed a bit more work before continuing with any testing on my part. No spoilers. I don't won't to prejudice anyone' s opinion. What I found lacking at that time may well have been changed,  as I'd planned to revisit this one in a couple months. Maybe time to re-install it and have a look.

All I can say at this point is that they have a nice concept going on, how they implement it will be what makes or breaks it.

I can't find any info in this game about how is the gameplay. What is the goal of the player. What's the game even? I find it hard to get into it without any information whatsoever, other than "FPS RPG".
Is there magic? I would love to try it out if there is. Is it just sword play in fps? I'm not interested then. The bare minimum of information is needed for ppl like me to join and test it out.

It literally says "dabble in forbidden magic" in the "What is Elegos?" section above...

I originally thought this was an MMO and passed over it for a couple months, until recently after learning more about it. I think it's that banner image of the girl looking back at the players with all the people behind her; I'm getting some MMO "come join us" vibes from it.
