About this mod

This mod will encourage you to explore the islands without having to do the main mission and without giving you access to all the weapons right from the beginning. Better weapons are unlocked by side missions, XP rewards from towers and outposts are replaced with double XP from relics and letters, and other features to encourage exploring.

Video review from TheAdipose:

Welcome to Explorer Mod!

This mod is not recommended for your first play though of Far Cry 3. For that I would recommend MrPingy's Rebalanced mod.

I, originally, made this mod just for myself. Therefore some of the changes are to suit my own preferences. If enough people want a feature changed or removed, I'll certainly consider making optional versions.

MrPingy's Far Cry 3 Rebalanced (with Vanilla MiniMap) ver.4.0.7 was used as the base for this mod. But, I've made quite a few changes (and this is my first mod) so any bugs are most likely my fault. Unless otherwise stated, any updates to MrPingy's mod past ver.4.0.7 have not been included in this mod.

Features of this mod:
- Start in Amanaki Village. (General_Problem)
- 2nd island unlocked from beginning. (jketiynu)
- Wingsuit unlocked from beginning. (dj84722)
- Increased height before receiving fall damage. (Ziggy)
- Increased how steep of a slope you can climb. (Ziggy)
- Decreased height before prompted to deploy wingsuit. (Ziggy)
- Removed boxes from camera view. (DrKramshaw)
- Enemies no longer drop their weapons when killed.
----- The weapon the NPC was using now just disappears from the game when the NPC dies.
----- This was done to get rid of the player accidentally switching weapons when trying to loot a body.
----- This also makes getting ammo more of a challenge, which encourages exploring.
- Removed XP rewards from Outposts and Radio Towers.
----- Doubled XP rewards from Relics and Letters of the Lost.
- Far Cry 3 Rebalanced with Vanilla MiniMap ver.4.0.7 (MrPingy) with the following changes:
----- Not all of the weapons are unlocked at the beginning of the game.
--------- Ten low level weapons are available at the start and the rest are unlocked by completing Story Quests (the little blue exclamation marks on maps).
--------- Specials and Signature weapons remain unchanged.
----- Reinstated Extended Magazine attachments for weapons that had them in the vanilla game.
----- Removed Silencer attachment from AK47. (it makes the weapon too powerful at beginning of game, imho)
----- Stopped tagging sounds from playing when using camera or scopes. (not sure who to credit for this one)
----- Faster loot animations. (smashly66)
----- Auto Reload re-enabled. (if enough people want it disabled, I could make it optional)
----- Cosmetic changes.

Hardcore version:
- Relic and letter icons removed from map and minimap. Collectable ("Item") maps removed from store.

Casual and Hardcore with Neverland 2:
- Separate downloads with tweaked Neverland 2 (Chorizosss) (thanks to noopersdog for the suggestion)
- Outposts still do not give XP rewards.
- Money reward unchanged from Neverland 2.

Notes:
Stopping tagging sounds requires replacing FC3.dll or FC3_d3d11.dll. If you use an altered FC3.dll or FC3_d3d11.dll (i.e. Enhance to Weapon Holster mod), see below for instructions on how to change the files yourself.

If anyone has any suggestions on making this mod even more explorer friendly, let me know.

Installation:
- Back up FC3.dll or FC3_d3d11.dll from your bin folder; and Patch.dat and Patch.fat from your data_win32 folder.
- Unzip into a directory of your choice.
- Replace FC3.dll or FC3_d3d11.dll in your bin folder with the ones from the unzipped directory.
- Replace Patch.dat and Patch.fat in your data_win32 folder with the ones from the unzipped directory.
- Enjoy (you will, probably, have to start a new game).

To manually remove tagging sounds:
- Open FC3.dll or FC3_d3d11.dll with a hex editor (I use HxD)
- Find the text sndHintBinocular
- Replace the corresponding hex values with zeroes so that sndHintBinocular becomes a line of periods
- Save

Thank yous:
Gibbed/Rick for his Dunia 2 tools.
MrPingy for making the fantastic mod that I was able to build from. If it wasn't for his mod, I don't think I would have even tried modding this game.
