An idea is a greater monument than a cathedral.
And the advance of man's knowledge is a greater miracle than all the
sticks turned to snakes or the parting of the waters.

Jerome Lawrence, Robert Edwin Lee. Inherit The Wind, 1955.

I'm almost 31; the internet isn't what it was when I began browsing it 20+ years ago. It used to be that superfans about a topic mingled in IRC chats. You had to refresh a page each time you wanted to see if someone responded to you in a forum. The digital landscape felt like a wild west; discovering new webpages held a curious wonder for me, not dissimilar to wandering a new city or museum.

Nowadays, being online is a vector that pulls people into infinitesimally small points. We don't really browse the internet, instead we scroll a few social media apps owned by a handful of companies. I think that's kinda fucked, not to mention several magnitudes more boring than the internet used to be back in the day.

Wiki sites have held fast as places I can explore and feel a sense of wonder. They were also the beginning of my contribution to the Fallout fandom; I was editing Nukapedia on Day 1 of Fallout 4 and submitted to Known Bug sections each time New Vegas went FUBAR on my Xbox 360.

My belief, steadfast and true: the best custodians of information is people who are nerds who care more about preservation than search engine optimization. They're also people who can identify community needs and coordinate infrastructure when tools are needed.

In sort of the same way that maybe you should think about going to a local store instead of a large chain because it's better for your local economy, I think it's important to support websites that are breaking from the current monopolistic structure the internet currently finds itself in. To continue the comparison; maybe there's no ethical browsing on the internet so long as you still have social media accounts with large providers, but small choices in where you browse might make a better experience. You might meet interesting people, or have experiences that weren't possible at the big box store.

Happy third birthday to the Independent Fallout Wiki! I'm very proud to call myself a friend of the Wiki, and have had a great time working with them for community events such as Community Creations Con 2025.

Custom textures by me. Mesh is a vanilla asset. Radbeetle finalized the Mr Handy .nif, which gave me a lot of trouble.
ESL-flagged. Cleaned in FO4Edit. Does not require DLC.
Made with Creation Kit v1.10.162.0. Should work fine with NG.

Known issues: Something about custom hats and Mr Handy units means that when you unequip their hat, the mesh will remain. I'm not sure how to fix this. You can select the actor in console, disable then enable, and the hat should go away.

Fallout Mod Central IFW's mod hub. Mod author directory & archive for resources. This is a great place for modders to sign up and share up to date knowledge! You can even use your modder page as a portfolio of sorts, kinda like looking at IMDB. It's otherwise impossible to see everything I've contributed to on Nexus, unless I list it on my profile. It's pretty easy to edit, give it a try! Here's my modder page - I intend to keep mine updated!
