About this mod

Updated in 3.0: Completely replaces the vanilla crates with a wide variety of lootable versions, covering varying amounts of all base game crafting resources. So many colors!

New in Version 3.0: I have completely reworked the premise of Vault Looter Extension, leaving behind Mac's original 8 crates and instead creating 20 new containers covering all crate colors, styles, and containing combinations of all the vanilla game's crafting resources, including those not featured in Vault Looter. This includes Glass, Gold, and others. By default, the new INI is also set to completely randomize which of these are swapped in the world, meaning the resources recovered will be random and Vault Tec locations are suddenly much more colorful. This will likely be the final update to this mod, so if you enjoyed my work, please let me know!

As of version 3, this mod no longer requires the original Vault Looter. I still recommend it, as it consistently spawns these resources and fills in otherwise empty areas in vaults, which is boring.

Version 2.0 is released! I used Vault Looter's templates to create lootable versions of the other 12 crates, so you can have all 20 be containers instead of set dressing with no loss in diversity. Just enable the plugin and set your desired swap rates in the ini.

Just a simple Base Object Swapper file that takes the lootable vault crates from Vault Looter and uses the incredible cosmic power of Base Object Swapper to dynamically replace the vanilla static objects with these new lootable versions. Honestly kinda surprised nobody did this already, actually.

WARNING: The godly master powerofthree has made it known to us, the plebs
Due to Fallout 4's precombine system, swapping statics and static collections is not recommended.
I play with precombines turned off, so I can't say for sure what the performance effects of having interior precombines enabled with these files installed. It SHOULD be fine, but you have been warned.

NOTE: I had played with precombines disabled for the better part of a year when I made this. This mod actually doesn't work when these crates are part of precombines, you cannot loot the crates at all. To fix this, turn off precombines in fallout4prefs.ini to loot them, and turn them back on when you're done. If an xEdit script/f4se plugin/synthesis patcher is released to dynamically disable precombines including these crates or inside interior locations, I will link it here and list it as a requirement.

As of Version 3.0, there are only two files included in this mod: Vault Looter Extended and Vault Looter Suits.
  • Vault Looter Extended includes the plugin for the 20 new crates and the INI for Base Object Swapper to distribute them. This plugin does not require the original Vault Looter, but you should go check it out anyway.
  • Vault Looter Suits replaces the vanilla static vault suit boxes with Vault Looter's versions that contain...well, vault suits. Note that I cannot control WHICH vault suits they contain, so if you find a box of Vault 101 jumpsuits in Vault 95 to be immersion breaking, do not use this file. This does require the original vault looter.

By default, the swap chance on all these items is set to 50%. You can change this after downloading by opening the INI, finding the specific swap you want to change, scroll all the way to the right, and change chanceS(50) to you desired number 0-100. You can also change the swap chance method if you want, but I do not endorse that as I have not done any testing with the other swap methods.

I play on NG 1.10.984 and use the corresponding Base Object Swapper, but I see no reason this shouldn't work on OG with and older version of BOS. Would hugely appreciate anyone who plays on OG if you could let me know.

Addendum: I was finally able to successfully downgrade my game and confirm this is 100% functional on 1.10.163.

Installation: Install with a mod manager of your choice, I use Vortex, or unzip your chosen files and drop them directly into your Fallout 4 data folder. Verify the swaps are working by either going to a vault location and finding a swapped container or by looking at po3_BaseObjectSwapperF4.log in your F4SE folder.

Credit to MrMacHack for Vault Looter, Benven for the help in figuring out the configuration, and powerofthree for the incredible tool that is Base Object Swapper. Hope you enjoy as much as I do!
