About this mod
Ever found yourself looking at a folder full of save files, wondering which is which? You no longer need to guess, you can now see.
- Requirements
- Permissions and credits
Two Windows shell extensions for FO4 savegame (.FOS) files from all game versions - NG, OG and even older versions:
FOSThumbnails
Display the savegame screenshot as the explorer icon/thumbnail for all your Fallout 4 .FOS savegame files:

FOSPropertysheet
Add a new "FO4 Savegame" property sheet for Fallout 4 .FOS savegame file property dialog:

The file property dialog pops up when you right click a save file and choose "Properties" from the context menu.
INSTALL
- Download and install Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 Runtime.
- Download the 7zip and manually extract it to a folder on your system drive. DO NOT INSTALL THE 7ZIP WITH A MOD MANAGER.
- Run the FOS_Install.bat batch file from an admin cmd.exe session.
- The "Server Manager" opens.
- Use the File > Load Server to load FO4SaveGamePropertySheet.dll and FO4SaveGameThumbnails.dll
- Observe and follow instructions in image below:

Finally, choose Explorer > Restart Explorer from the menu to complete the installation and close ServerManager.exe
If the Thumbnails do not appear to work at first, run FOS_ClearIconCache.bat. This will purge the explorer icon cache and restart explorer.
UNINSTALL
- Run servermanager.exe.
- For both extensions in the list, use Server > Unregister Server (x64) and Server > Uninstall Server (x64) menu entries.
- Close servermanager.
- Run FOS_Uninstall.bat.
- Optional: Run FOS_ClearIconCache.bat to get rid of any savegame thumbnails stored on your computer.
KNOWN ISSUES
- If you open multiple savegame property dialogs at once, some or all of them may freeze and cause explorer.exe to restart.
- The savegame property sheet doesn't work on Windows 11; The "FO4 Savegame" register never appears.
SUPPORT
This is very beta quality software and -like anything else to do with the game- is slightly bugged; see "known issues". Tested on Win10 only.
No warranty of any kind is given; "It just works". If it doesn't, I probably can't help you.
