Purpose:

The V.A.N.S. perk is very annoying to use. You have to enter VATS each time you want to see where to go, which pauses the game and makes the entire process tedious.

This mod adds special goggles that allow you to constantly see the path to your closest quest target, provided you have the V.A.N.S. perk. If you don't have the V.A.N.S. perk yet, the Goggles are purely cosmetic and will not do anything special. Once you get the perk, the goggles will work as intended.

While wearing the googles, your path will update automatically every 8 seconds. Removing the googles will stop the path from showing until you wear them again. While not wearing the goggles, your V.A.N.S. perk works using VATS the vanilla way.

Where To Find:

The goggles can be found inside of a derelict van right outside of Vault 111. See screenshots if you can't find it.

How to use:

Install with Vortex or unpack into C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Data and enable manually. If you want to disable the sound effect V.A.N.S. makes when finding a path, use the optional .esp file instead of the one from the main archive. If you are still on old-gen Fallout, use the optional .ba2 files instead of the ones in the main archive.

Notes:

  • The mod is intended for the next-gen update. If you’re still on old gen, grab the .ba2 archive from the optional files and use those files with the .esp from the main archive.
  • The mod requires Nuka-World because that DLC modifies the V.A.N.S. perk.
  • The goggles only work if you have the V.A.N.S. perk. If you prefer to cheat, you can get it via the console: player.addperk 207d1
  • The game may stutter for a second every time it scans for the next trail in dense areas. That's a limitation I cannot fix. I believe that's the reason Bethesda made the trail only show when you enter VATS, to avoid us noticing the stutter. I still think it's a small price to pay for the convenience when stuck in an indoor maze.
  • If you can't find the goggles outside of Vault 111, open the console and type: help "v.a.n.s. goggles" 4 to find their armor ID and add them via player.additem
