There's more in the Glowing Sea than one fast dash across it will discover. "Radiation Explorer" has the equipment you'll need: the ability to craft armored radiation resistant outfit and helmet, and a plasma rifle.

There's more in the Glowing Sea than one fast dash across it will discover.  "Radiation Explorer" has the equipment you'll need.
This is not a starting level mod.  Even with good equipment, an early level character would not survive the dangers of the Glowing Sea.  You'll need the experience for at least Science 2 and Armorer 2 perks.
Once you're ready you can convert a hazmat suit to an antiradiation suit and helmet at the Chemistry workbench.  Each part of the outfit accepts ballistic weave, and once you have a suit you'll be able to add weave to both parts whether or not you complete the Railroad quests.
You will also be able to build an explorer's plasma rifle at the Chemistry workbench.  This uses any plasma gun as a basis, and requires Rifleman 2 perks to build.  The plasma rifle does not accept further modification.
TECHNICAL NOTES:
The antiradiation helmet and suit, worn together, provide the radiation protection of a hazmat suit but can also be armored with ballistic weave.  For this mod, I've attached the EnchPA_HazmatRadReduction function to the helmet.  It does not show up on in-game statistics, but enhances the character's radiation resistance.
