About this mod

Wooden shacks aren't that nice to look at, this mod tries to fix that issue.

UPDATE 2: User requested a seperate menu, hope it helps.
UPDATE: I know how to navmesh but I naturally assumed workshop items worked automatically. Apologies....

This mod containts shack edges, corner posts, quarter walls, quarter and half floors and roofs.

I've always wanted to hide the edges and gaps the vanilla objects leave when building wooden shacks. After a few ideas I finally came up with something very simple. There may be some issues still in the final release, but I can only add so many models to the game without making it bloated. My first idea that worked added over 20 new meshes, and the menu became very bloated and made the experience annoying.

Please watch my video (this is a seperate download and is 470mb) to understand how things work, otherwise build your design first. Then add the edges and sides last (inc's corner posts). It will take a while to get used to it all, but once you do you'll be pleased (well, I hope you will).

Edges and corner posts need to be added in sequence, to get the final look you must do:

  • For edges, build your shack floors, add walls, add roofs and then add the edges. They will even snap underneath the walls on the floor.
  • For corner posts you need to add the wall, take the wall off, add the corner post to one of the walls (it has 2 positions), now place the wall back.

I've tried several designs over the last few weeks and found that this one works best. You'll wonder why you have the same vanilla models added to the .BA2 file, well the reason for that is because I had to add several snap points to make my mod work with the game. The file size is less than 1.5mb so it's not exactly massive.

BLUE & YELLOW? In Nifskope I used green but in game it looks blue. But why? I chose solid colours to hopefully help you see what the edge objects do. I tried using a model with textures but you couldn't see anything as the icons in the game are quite small (zooming in is just a waste).

I will be trying out new ideas later with this mod. The metal shacks for instance bug me, in fact I hate them! So that will be my next idea on how to improve them.

---------------------

EDGES:

They have been placed under the correct categories, so if you have a floor 2 roof use the floor 2 roof edge only. If you have a wall and you want to use half a floor use the wall 2 wall edge (it's the thickest of all edges). Finally if you want a roof edge, use one of the edges under the roof section. There are 2 of each edges, one for the quarter and one for the full object. Corner Posts are placed under the wall option, this just felt natural as you'll only need them to cover the gaps on corners where walls are placed. For floors, I've made some corner models, again it will take time to get used to them.

HALVES & QUARTERS:

Anyone who downloaded my "Halves & Quarters" mod can delete this from their game as this new mod basically improves upon it. It doesn't overwrite anything from that mod, so it's your choice if you use the 2 together. Just note that I've not made any snap points for this mod to work on my other mod.

WALLS:

All walls (including vanilla) can now sink into te ground. I added a "SinkMax" snap point to each mesh. Why Bethesda didn't do this is odd as we all know walls don't go on hilly ground without a bit of work.

VARIOUS:

As stated, the stairwell, 3 floors, 2 foundations and the balcony floors have had some extra snap points added to work with my mod. I've also used a collision from the metal wall (Shack Wall 3) on Shack Wall 4 (the plywood one with blue). You can now place this wall on all 4 sides, before the collision was stopping this from working. A vanilla wall has been added to the menu, I guess they forgot or just left it out.

Lastly, I added the 2nd material to the other plank floor. It's in the assets but again Bethesda went with that horrible "white stripe" texture (I've never liked this at all).

THAT'S ALL...I really do hope you like this mod, I've spent a few weeks getting it to work and really did my best to make what you see on screen a lot nicer to look at....

Watch this space, BGD00...
