About this mod

Small mod that adds new flags with non-lore friendly but mostly fitting motives. Includes flags hanging from walls and waving flag poles. Easy to customize and with tutorial. Might add new motives in the future.

Greetings

This mods plugin in a ESP plugin flagged as an ESL. This means it counts towards your 4096 limit of ESLs instead of your 256 limit of ESPs.

Position in your load order doesn't matter since my mod doesn't change anything and is completely standalone.

This mod adds new flag motives to the game that are standalone and aren't a retexture of existing flags or something. There is a tutorial below and included in the mod files for you to add new functional motives by yourself.

Included Motives:

1.: Pride Flag

2.: Modern German Flag (based pride flag)
-> Fallouts timeline, as far as I know, starts to separate from our real timeline at the end of World War 2. I assume, Germany got it's Black-Red-Yellow flag back after democracy was re-established just as in the real world. Depending on what happens in Europe, there might be migration across the Atlantic Ocean from continental Europe. Cait is from Ireland, so why wouldn't it be possible for a german family to arrive in the Commonwealth during the 200 years between the Great War and 2287?

3.: Survivalist Flag (source)

4.: Neofeudal Clique (source)
-> The USA never experienced feudalism, but the American flavour of capitalism is based on big corporations. At the end of the day, it's not too abstract of a concept to think there might be rather educated people in the Commonwealth who developed a system that modernizes feudalism (or that modernizes capitalism). Feudalism fits the human nature, just like capitalism. By combining aspects of both systems together, you might end up with a system that's perfect for a low-population area that requires a lot of farmers and warriors, just like a postapocalyptic wasteland. The 3 rings represent (from the outside to the inside) farmers, the military and the leaders who hold the economic power ("true power") and whose symbol are the 3 triangles of power consolidation.

5.: European Republic
-> I made this flag a couple of years ago for a sci-fi novel I'm still working on. It's not perfect (I need to re-work the flag), but maybe you like it. The triangular shape is supposed to represent progress (a timeline goes from left to right) but also expansion into the east. My scenario isn't postapocalyptic, but this flag could be fitting for the Fallout lore if we assume western Russia got nuked and didn't recover as fast as other parts of Europe.

Tutorial:

1.: Create your flag as a DDS file (I recommend using "Gimp")
1.1.: The format of the flag itself is 1:2 (width = 1024, height = 512), but the DDS file has to have the format 1024:1024
1.2.: I set the Saturation, Contrast, and Brightness (in that order) to 0.9 to keep the flags from being overly glowy.
1.3.: I have no idea what it does, but when exporting my DDS files, I use the settings "Compression: BC3 / DXT5" and "Mipmaps: Generate Mipmaps".

2.: Duplicate one of the preexisting material files and one of the "Backlit" material files and rename them according to your flags theme

3.: Use Material Editor to open your material file. Change the rider from "General" to "Material" and change the name of the DDS file in the first line (called "Diffuse"). Don't forget to do the same thing with the "Backlit" Material.

4.: Use FO4Edit to modify the ESP plugin.
4.1.: Create a new "Material Swap" and reference the material files you created (each Material Swap will need a normal and a "Backlit" Material)
4.2.: Create a new "Static" (Wall Flag) and a "Moveable Static" (Flag Pole). Just copy and paste what's already there and then change the Material Swap my pre-existing Statics reference.
4.3.: To actually do anything in the game, you need to create 2 "Constructable Objects", one for the Wall Flag and one for the Flag Pole. I recommend copying what's already there and then changing the "Created Object" to your new flag. "Editor IDs" don't have any effect, but I recommend renaming them as well to not get confused.
4.4.: Check for errors, save and exit FO4Edit

5.: Unless you didn't add any requirements for crafting your flag, you should be able to find your new flag inside the usual "Flags" category in your workshop menu. If you followed this tutorial, you will end up with 2 versions of your flag: as a pole and as a flag to hang on a wall.

Regarding copyright:

Motives of Flag 3 and 4 aren't made by me and I didn't ask for permission. However, I'm not gaining anything from uploading this mod here. The pictures themselves are publically available (that's how I got them) and nothing stops people from copying and using them anyway. People not knowing the original posts and using my mod won't result in a loss for the original works creator, but reversely, my mod is basically marketing since I'm adding the sources. If I'm supposed to remove this mod or these two flags, just tell me.

Enjoy and have a nice day.
