UPDATE: This patch has now been merged into Combined Arms Tweaks - (CAT) (v2.0.4), courtesy of Zahara91. If are using that mod, you no longer need to use my patch.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The name pretty much speaks for itself, but Super Mutants should now equip and use two handed weapons from Combined Arms.

The patch is largely inspired by More Super Mutant Weapon Animations by Abbalovesyou, so don't forget to endorse that mod :)

<INSTALLATION>

Just install and enable it like any other mod and you're good to go! This is an ESL-flagged ESP.

<KNOWN ISSUES... or ESTIMATED ISSUES> Since this mod is not tested at all... so yeah.

Let it be clear that all this mod is doing is that it assigns vanilla Super Mutant animations for weapons that use custom animations.

Super Mutants can't use such weapons because the animations aren't compatible with their races, or in layman's terms, the race as a whole doesn't "know" how to use those shiny new guns. Internally speaking, custom animations work by making a list of new animation files (.hkx files) in the form of a RACE record, setting conditions for when the animations should apply, and telling which race the animation is compatible with. Needless to say, animations made for humans just don't work properly for Super Mutants so most mods just leave them alone.

So, save for the tedious effort of creating muties-exclusive animations, an easy but effective solution is to just give them vanilla animations. This, however, comes with some side effects such as:

  • Super Mutants do not use custom animations (obviously). This includes goofy stuff like firing the SPAS-12 shotgun as if in semi-auto mode even if it were in pump-action mode.
  • Guns appear to be distorted. (e.g. magazine, barrel and/or other parts may go flying off, see image #5)
  • Super Mutants do not use pistols at all. I've intentionally omitted race records for pistols because there are no vanilla animations for pistols in the first place. Consider it canon.

In short, you may encounter some immersion-breaking visuals, but these are just how this mod works, so please do not report them as bugs. The only actual way to solve these issues would be to make custom animations just for Super Mutants and I do not have the resources to make that happen.

Otherwise, feel free to reach out to me if you find any issues not listed here so I can look into them!
