Have you ever wondered where your Sole Survivor gets his screwdriver for picking locks? How about all the other tools necessary to rebuild the Commonwealth? How do you start fires for that cooking station, or campfire? How about how you’re keeping those pearly whites so white and your hair so well kept? If you’ve asked these questions, haven’t found an answer that suits you, and this breaks your immersion bone, then this mod is for you.
This mod adds items that you can carry with you that show up under the Miscellaneous Tab in your Pip-Boy, allowing you to kit out your Sole Survivor with various items you find laying around in the Commonwealth, plus a few that aren’t found anywhere. Did you find a coffee cup that you want to keep? How about a dog bowl for Dogmeat? How about a simple screwdriver, and a box of matches so that smoking mod makes a little more sense? Or maybe you prefer a lighter instead? Need dog tags for all your settlement guards? Holotags? Do you want a Toolbox? You can now create these items, and so many more, at the Chem Bench.
USAGE:
All you need to do is take the item you want to the Chem Bench and look for it under the appropriate section. If it’s a piece of junk or handy item, like a lighter, watch, coffee cup, pot, teacup, what-have-you, you’ll find it under the My Gear section. If it’s a screwdriver, hammer, blowtorch, full or empty Toolbox, etc., you’ll find it under the My Tools section. If you’re tired of carrying around that coffee cup, coffee tin, dogbowl, etc., etc., etc., you can find a recipe to return it to your Junk tab under the My Junk section.
Note that although there are a few recipes that this mod adds to both the My Gear and My Tools sections: the Hygiene Kit, Blank Book, Dog Tags, etc., under My Gear, and Toolboxes under My Tools, this mod uses a dynamic filtering method to avoid spamming these sections with recipes for singular, core game, mundane items. Plus, the My Junk section won’t show up at all unless your carrying an item under your Miscellaneous tab that can be shifted into the Junk tab. Most individual item recipes will NOT show up under any category unless you have the item in your inventory. Because of this, you will need to exit the Chem Bench once and awhile to allow all currently available recipes to show up. There are a lot of items so far. If you’re wondering which ones, simply take the item you’re curious about to the chem bench and see if you can do something with it. Don’t forget the Abraxo ;).
For example, you’ve decided that you’re character is done searching for screwdrivers every time he wants to pick a lock (role-playing here; this mod doesn’t gate anything behind the items – although it’s a feature that I wouldn’t mind). You pick one up and there it sits under your Junk tab. If you want to make sure you don’t accidentally drop it for scrap, then take it the Chem Bench, look under My Tools, and you’ll see a recipe for “My Screwdriver”. Select it and put your name on that thing. Now it’ll sit under the Miscellaneous Tab until you decide you don’t want it anymore. If you don’t want it, then enter the Chem Bench a second time, and as long as “My Screwdriver” or other “My” items are in your inventory, then the My Junk section will show up allowing you to return your items to the junk category.
Although the majority of items in this mod are mundane, and simply for immersion purposes there are a couple of special ones I’ll mention here. The Hygiene Kit is an aid item made by combining a Hairbrush (or Fancy Hairbrush if you’re carrying one), Toothpaste, Toothbrush, Soap, Antiseptic and Cloth (Cloth for the satchel you keep these items in, and for keeping clean) together under My Gear. This aid item is not consumable, it’ll last forever if you want it to, and simply provides a Charisma buff for a limited time when you use it. I wanted to add a limited number of uses to it, but found the scripting involved was beyond me. If you want to junk it eventually, you can do that under My Junk. You can also refill the Junk Hygiene Kit with a little Toothpaste, Soap and Antiseptic if you want it back after the fact.
The Toolboxes are one of the first items that I wanted in this mod. They have a special way of operating thanks to a wonderful script made by LarannKiar! Give her a kudos if you enjoy this mod, and don’t forget to check her mods out while you’re there. A lot of must haves on her page! Thank you again LarannKiar!
Toolboxes are made under My Tools and the recipes for them always show up. That way you can see all of the necessary ingredients to create them. You could, if you wanted, have the recipe list be a sort of scavenger hunt. Or, you could download a mod that allows you to make the tools needed for the Toolboxes (ECO is a wonderful one, and I highly recommend it). They start with an Empty Toolbox which you can make yourself. Then, once all of the items needed for the box you want are acquired, you can put them together under My Tools in the Chem Bench. There are only 2 Toolboxes at the moment, a regular Toolbox, and a Craftsman Toolbox. The regular Toolbox is simple enough to make, but the Craftsman may take some time as it needs almost every tool in the game. Anyway, if you want your tools back after crafting these items, all you need to do is drop it on the ground, enter workshop mode and scrap it. Thanks to LarannKiar’s script, you’ll get back all of your tools, plus an Empty Toolbox! Minus a couple of items that you used up while toting around your Toolbox.
It’s a tiny mod, and ESL – Flagged. Simply drag and drop, or extract the GaS2MyGear.esp, and the GaS2MyGear – Main.ba2 file to your Fallout 4 Data folder. Load order shouldn’t matter, but most likely below other mods that add recipes to the Chem Bench, as this mod works its magic with keywords.
A lot of items have been added so that you can play around with different objects for different characters, if that sort of things suits you. I know I enjoy little things that make each character feel a bit different from the last, maybe this little mod will help that aspect of your immersion too. Don't forget to keep checking back at the Chem Lab to see what you can create!
I may add more items in the future. Then again I may not. This mod, as it stands now, does not require any DLC, all items are from the core Fallout 4 game. DLC items, and items of my own making may end up in a future update.
You can use this mod however you like. Although I can't give permission for anyone to use LarannKiar's script. Only she can do that.
If there are any problems with mod, or you simply wish to make a request for an item, feel free to post it. I won’t guarantee that I’ll make your item request, but I’ll at least consider it. Any other suggestions for the mod are welcome too, as long as you understand that I might not do it. That said, happy gaming!
