This mod aims to add quality of life to Fallout 4 but making it less painful when creating robots. Instead of building each robot from scratch, wasting components on a Protectron that you'll never use, you can build the base robot immediately before adding the armor or weapons you want. Just place the Advanced Robotics Engineering workbench in your settlement and you can begin mass creating your robotic army in no time, and without breaking the immersion of the game and getting straight to playing the game again!
The Automatrons that are crafted will cost a little more than if you were to build it from scratch (removing the base Protectron resources that you needed to build first so you essentially save on resources) to factor in the container that comes with the Automatrons. The necessary perks are still required to build certain Automatrons based on it's armor class. It's important to note, that not every Automatron has every armor class (Protectron and Robobrain Automatrons do not have certain armors available to them in the game, so they are not missing from the crafting menu)
The goal of Advanced Robotics Engineering is to save you time, not to make it overpowered or too easy to build Automatrons in regards to resources.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Standard Basic - All basic Automatrons are now available at the workbench as well as a set of mini Sentry bots to help in a pinch. They will follow you and aggressively attack enemies until they die. They do not count as companions and they cannot be selected in the workshop menu for jobs.
- You will need the necessary perks to build certain robots, based on their original limb/armor recipes. All robots will come neatly packed in a Mr. Handy box(for now)! Some assembly required.
- You will need the necessary perks to build certain robots, based on their original limb/armor recipes. All robots will come neatly packed in a Mr. Handy box(for now)! Some assembly required.
How to use:
- Complete the Automatron quest line
- The workbench will be under the crafting menu in the Settlement Workshop menu
- When placed, you can craft the "Bot Boxes" that hold all the components of the desired robot. The boxes will go into the Misc category of your Pip-Boy when crafted. NOTE: The boxes have weight when in your inventory and they are heavy!
- When you want to actually assemble the robots, simply drop the box on the ground then "activate" it. The activation text should say "Build". NOTE: You can place all of your boxes at the same time and just spam the activate button to release all of the robots at once.
- When you activate it, the box will disappear and the corresponding robot will spawn in its place in factory default mode. They will enter a dialog as if it was a robot created in the original Automatron workbench. You must recruit the robot and then send them away to correctly assign them to a settlement.
- Once you complete the steps above, the robot will behave like any other that was originally created in the Automatron workbench.
NOTES:
- This mod makes use of a LOT of new keywords and only a handful scripts. Which only run at certain times when activated, so it shouldn't cause much trouble in regards to performance.
- The item logo needs to be adjusted to view properly in the Pip-Boy menu
- Recipes need tuning to be slightly more accurate for the robot configuration.
- Box weights need adjustment to better reflect the robot inside
- Box items need to be modeled to better reflect the robot inside
- Box values need to be adjusted to better reflect the robot inside
- Workbench will be remodeled eventually to prevent confusion to the original workbench.
- All crafted boxes will start with "Bot Box" to make them group together in your inventory
FAQ:
1.Are the bots fully functional with the Automatron DLC, as in fully customizable in the robot workbench?
Yes, the robots are fully customizable if you activate the Automatron robot workbench with them around. You will be able to rename, add/remove parts, paints, voices, etc. As for the unique NPCs, you should be able to customize them, but it would remove the original part. I will include it in the next version for testing.
2. Will we be able to save a robot template for future use?
The idea crossed my mind and I would love to add it. I’ll look Into this more after the core components are finished.
3. When I build certain Automatrons, it looks like there are armor pieces missing, what gives?
There are different armor classes for similar looking pieces. Actuated appears to be a weaker version of Hydraulic armor, there are also less pieces available for the weaker classes. This also applies to the wasteland armor pieces. From looking at the in-game files, Hydraulic and Warmonger seem to be the only versions that have armor pieces for all robot limbs. The other armor classes may only have a front torso mod, legs, arms, and possibly only armor for the head. Of course, these Automatron models are going to be cheaper to make, and lighter in your inventory, and will sell for less at vendors.
4. The voices are sometimes different when I build the robot, and then it lags during the dialog before changing it's voice. Is this a bug?
This is due to some lagging in running the script after the game spawns the robot. This is normal if you spawn a lot of robots at the same time.
5. I have the components and the required perks. Why can't I build the robots??
Most robots also need at least armor 1 to build. There is a visual bug that doesn't show the perks after the first 2. Try assigning a point into Armorer and check the workbench again. More options should appear.
COMPATIBILITY INFO:
- There are some mods that cause the mini sentries to become hostile when they spawn. I am looking into what is causing this issue!
- This mod uses core files from all DLC. If you install any mod that changes the ID of those resources, this mod will not work.
- All Robots that are crafted are their own separate NPCs in the game files. If you use a mod that modifies the base Automatron, it will not affect this mod.
- I am currently testing this mod with the other robot mods that add new bots, armors, weapons etc. I will list the compatible mods here when I finish testing.
- Automatron Expanded Weapons System
- Capital Wasteland Robot Pack
