When I discovered that Onikitsune had taken it upon themselves to make a lupine race NPC replacer, I decided I could put my (very limited) technical knowledge to work to splice it into the existing Vulpine NPC replacer made by chipfox
Onikitsune's NPC list seemed to be the more exhaustive of the two, so I gave it priority in terms of overwriting.
Original credit for the Vulpine Race goes to beardofsocrates Original credit for the Lupine Race adaptation goes to Shadowliger
If any of the four of them makes a better version of this or asks me to take this down, I'll comply as soon as I'm aware of the request.
This mod will NOT change the species of any new NPCs added by other mods, and all ghouls are still human. (Personally, I recommend adding a couple mods that add new NPCs to the game after this, so you have a nice mix of wolf, fox, human, and ghoul in your towns and settlements.)
In total I made 325 edits to the Lupine NPC .esp and in many places I picked blindly and at random. There were only a few NPCs I specifically chose to be one or the other. It's not impossible to go through manually and pick and choose to play favorites, but Onikitsune has already said they intend on making significant changes in the 2.0 version of the Lupine NPC mod, so I don't see the point of putting exhaustive effort into it at this time. Once their 2.0 is out, I'll look into revisiting this and applying a more curated approach.
