Overview

Ever feel like Fallout 4 is a good shooter but a mediocre RPG? Ever wonder if Bethesda wanted to make Fallout 4 a Dungeon Crawler instead? So have I.



While there are plenty of mods to add in or improve many of the game's RPG elements, after 5 years I haven't found a single other mod which does what a simple, tiny, not so good mod I made back in 2016 did. Make your choices of Equipment matter for your build. This is a staple of RPGs, and yet Fallout 4's clothing usually only tweaks your base stats. While that is, in fact, something, wouldn't it be much more cool if you could put on a batter's helmet and get another rank of Big Leagues for wearing it? Wouldn't it be nice to be able to switch into a nice suit when going into town and get better prices on your scrap because you look like you're doing well as a trader?

I think so, and so here's this mod. Almost every single outfit in the entity of Fallout 4 has been altered to make your equipment a strategic choice. Unique outfits have been mostly left alone, and plenty of items and outfits still just boost stats, but most things will have a much more tangible effect on your character. Each effect is based on what the item in question is in the lore, or what it looks like. As an example, because the leather armor has pouches, it grants a little more carry weight.


These changes have been made using armor enchantments and custom magic effects so as to avoid any scripting issues, and keep the mod not only as lightweight as possible, but also fair and balanced. All changes to armor applies to you, but also to your enemies.
Furthermore, all perks this mod grants to clothing are vanilla perks, this is to preserve balance and customization (see Compatibility).

Requirements

This mod requires no other mods to work. It's fully standalone. You will need Nuka World, Far Harbor, Automatron, and Vault-Tec Workshop however. I wanted to cover everything that made sense to cover.

Compatibility

This should be compatible with any mod at all, so long as that mod doesn't also change armor enchantments. If you want to use another mod that changes armor enchantments, put this mod above it in your load order if you wish the other mod's effects to be used, or put this mod below it if you want this mod's effects to be used.

Because this mod only changes an armor/item's enchantment, it is fully compatible with any and all texture swaps and mesh swaps. It will also be compatible with mods that change the stats of armor so long as they do not change the stats using armor enchantments.

Lastly, this mod uses vanilla perks. It should be compatible with any mod that alters the perks themselves as long as that mod is altering the vanilla perks themselves and not cloning those perks to avoid touching the vanilla records. This means this mod should work with most if not all perk re-balances.


Installation

Just drop it into data files and activate. This is just an esp. No other files are used.

To Do

Expand the concept to all armors rather than most armors. Waiting on community suggestions for what certain outfits should do!

Changes Made by This Mod

There's a lot of these, so bear with me... This list is also not complete. Items description fields have been filled out. If you have a mod that lets you see the description field in game, you can read them all as you find them!

  • All Disciples helmets, hoods, hats, and so on - Reduce perception by 1, but increase charisma by 1 (You look more intimidating, but they do block your eyes sooooo...)
  • All Nukaworld Cowboy outfits and hats - Grants +1 rank of Gunslinger.
  • Army Fatigues - Increase sneak speed and boost stealth while in shadows.
  • Army Helmets - grant +1 rank of Rifleman.
  • Assault Gas Mask - Provides immunity to ingested radiation.
  • Athletic Outfit - Grants 20 AP and boosts AP regeneration.
  • Atom Cats Jacket / Zeek’s Jacket - Grants +1 rank of Science! Zeek’s Jacket defense increased.
  • Baseball Uniform - Grants 20 AP and boosts AP regeneration.
  • Bathrobe - Lowers addiction chance, but reduces all specials by 1.
  • Blue Batting Helmet - Grants +1 rank of Big Leagues.
  • BoS Uniforms - Grant a +5% critical damage bonus while using energy weapons.
  • Brotherhood Fatigues - Increase sneak speed and boost stealth while in shadows.
  • Cait’s Bandolier - Grants +20 carry capacity.
  • Child of Atom Robes - Provides resistance to all forms of radiation, regardless of source.
  • Children of Atom Rags - Provides resistance vs environmental, consumed, and weapon radiation.
  • Clean Business Suits - Provides +1 rank of Caps Collector.
  • Colonial Duster - Provides +1 rank of Local Leader.
  • Courser Uniform - Grants +1 rank of hacker.
  • Covert Sweater Vest - Increase sneak speed and boosts stealth while in shadows.
  • DB Tech Varsity Uniform - Grants 20 AP and boosts AP regeneration.
  • DC Guard helmets - Reduces stagger.
  • Disciple's Spiked Arm - Give bleed damage to unarmed strikes.
  • Dirty and Clean Postman’s Uniforms - Now add +30 Carry weight.
  • Disciples Armored Skirt - Increases sneak speed and boost stealth while in shadow.
  • Diver Suit - Provides an additional 70% radiation resistance (should be almost but nto quite immune to radiation.)
  • Drifter Outfit - Grants +10 Carry Capacity.
  • Engineer’s Armor - Grants +1 rank of Locksmith.
  • Explorer’s Outfit - Grants +1 rank of Locksmith.
  • Fatigues - Increase sneak speed and boost stealth while in shadows.
  • Fedoras and Trilbies - Reduce Charisma by 2, but grant +1 rank of Big Leagues.
  • Field scribe’s Armor - Grants +1 rank of hacker.
  • Fisherman's Outfit/Overalls and Hat - Fishermen are resourceful. Grants +1 rank of Scrounger. These stack.
  • Flight Helmets - Reduces environmental radiation.
  • Gas mask - Resists even more environmental rads.
  • Green Shirt and Combat Boots - Grants 1 rank of Rifleman.
  • Gunner Guard Outfit -  Grants +1 rank of Commando.
  • Gunner Harness - Provides +1 rank of Commando.
  • Gunner Leathers - Provides +1 rank of Sniper.
  • Heavy Trapper Armor - Reduces carry weight by 8 points per part due to their bulk, but reflects 10 points of melee damage.
  • High Confessor's Robes - Grant +2 Charisma.
  • Hooded Institute Clean Suit - Provides immunity to environmental radiation.
  • Hoodless Institute Clean Suit - Functions like the Damaged Radiation Suit.
  • Hubologist Outfit - Grants +1 rank of hacker and +1 rank of Science!
  • Hunter's Hood - Increases sneak speed and makes you harder to detect while in shadow.
  • Hunter's Long Coat -  Slowly heals damaged limbs and turns you invisible while sneaking at the cost of AP (This applies to NPCs as well).
  • Hunter's Pelt Outfit - Slowly heals damaged limbs and turns you invisible while sneaking at the cost of AP (This applies to NPCs as well).
  • Ingram’s Underarmor - Grants +1 rank of hacker.
  • Institute Lab Coats / Jumpsuits - Grants +1 rank of Science! 
  • Lab Coats - Grants +1 rank of hacker and +1 rank of Science!
  • Laundered Dresses - Improve your buy/sell prices via +1 rank of barter.
  • Laundered Loungewear - Improves trade prices.
  • Letterman's Jacket and Jeans - Grants 20 AP and boosts AP regeneration.
  • Longshoreman's Outfit - Grants +1 rank of Scrounger.
  • MacCready's Duster - Grants +1 rank of Sniper.
  • MacCready's Hat - Grants +1 rank of Gunslinger.
  • Marine Armor - Marine Armor Underbody is now an exoskeleton. It increases carry capacity, action point refresh speed, melee damage, and unarmed damage by a small amount. It also makes fusion cores last slightly longer. The helmet's filters now work and remove rads form consumed foods and drinks. The torso massively increases carry capacity.
  • Maxon's Battlecoat - Auto-injects a stimpack at 50% health.
  • Mechanic’s Jumpsuit - Grants +1 rank of hacker.
  • Medical Goggles - Boosts the effects of healing items.
  • Military Cap - Provides 1 rank of Commando.
  • Minuteman General’s Outfit - Provides +1 rank of Local Leader.
  • Minuteman Outfit - Provides +1 rank of Caps Collector.
  • Operator's Belted Chest Piece - Grants +10 carry weight.
  • Operator's Heavy Chest Piece - Decreases damage taken from explosions.
  • Patchwork sweater & furry pants/shorts - Grants some bonus melee damage and makes all unarmed attacks deal bleed damage.
  • Railroad Armored Coat - Slight protection against explosive damage. Resistance improves slightly with each mark.
  • Ratty Skirt - Provides +1 rank of Caps Collector.
  • Red Rocket and Mechanic’s Jumpsuits - Can be modded like vault suits.
  • Red Rocket Jumpsuit - Grants +1 rank of Locksmith.
  • Robot Armor - Revised into psudo-power armor. Robot Armor now resists physical and energy damage. Robot arms grant +1 strength each. Robot legs increases carry weight by 10 each. Robot Chestplate increases VATS hit chance. Assultron Helmet grants +1 Perception. Eyebot helmet grants +2 perception. Sentrybot helmet decreases staggering received by the wearer.
  • Sack Hood with Hoses - Reduces ingested rads.
  • Scavenger's Outfit - Grants +20 carry capacity.
  • Science Scribe Armor - Grants +1 rank of Locksmith, and +1 Hacking.
  • Silver Shroud Hat - Increase sneak speed and boosts stealth while in shadows.
  • Spike Armor - Grants some bonus melee damage and makes all unarmed attacks deal bleed damage.
  • Submariner's Uniform - slowly heals damaged limbs and turns you invisible while sneaking while draining AP (This applies to NPCs as well).
  • Synth Uniform - Grants 1 rank of Hacking and Lockpicking.
  • Trapper Armor - Now reduces your carry weight by 5 points per part due to their bulk, but reflects 5 points of melee damage.
  • Tuxedo - Grants +1 rank of gunslinger. Because Bond. James Bond.
  • Undamaged Hazmat Suits - Make you immune to environmental radiation damage.
  • Unique Vault Suit "Legend of Vault 88" - Greatly improves your buying and selling prices.
  • Ushanka - Makes chems (including alcohol) last twice as long.
  • Utility Overalls - Grants +1 rank of Locksmith.
  • Vault 88 Pipboy - Grants +1 rank of hacker and +1 rank of Science! (Cannot be used by player, but should allow companions to pick/hack 1 level better than normal. This is somewhat intermittent.)
