About this mod

Adds the dystopian trailer park tower Stacks from Ernest Cline's Ready Player One to the south Boston area, just north of Jamaica Plain. Performance tested for potatoes. If you ever read the book and wanted to know what its like to look up at the canopy of solar panels while climbing between towers of trailers and buses, here it is, my gift to you.

TLDR: This mod places 70ish large objects in the south Boston area,
and adds 4 workshop recipes.
It is optimized for 50fps on an old laptop's GTX 1060,
and nothing vanilla is touched.

This mod adds the labyrinthine jungle of trailer park towers known as The Stacks from Ernest Cline's brilliant book and now film, Ready Player One.

The South Boston Stacks are just north of Jamaica Plains, just south of South Boston Military Checkpoint.

Hidden on the highest stack is Cafe Grazie, my dedication to the community who helped me get here.
Anything I have accomplished is mere emulation of greater artists.
Cafe Grazie is modelled after many Italian and French cafes that I fell in love with while abroad in the US Air Force. This is one suspended 20 stories high, that serves coffee, croissants, pasties, and gelato.
If you really can't find it, it lights up at night.

It also adds 4 new recipes to your game, which enable you make your own stacks!
they are located under
/Building
/Metal
/Prefabs

I wanted to do so much more!
I wanted to add a quest marker for the Cafe x.x
I wanted a raider dungeon stack that was all boarded up with at least 3 entrances that you'd have to clear climbing up or down floor by floor.
I wanted to add my Asimovian Synth Butlers all over the cafe, and have them give you quests when you visit.
Ultimately some of these quests would involve retaking the Stacks from the raiders.
An obstacle speed race requiring jumping from stack to stack. Perhaps an additional level for jetpack users.
North Boston Stacks, East, West, etc.
A sadistically hard to reach collectible hunt.
Additional movie references, including 80s music, (we didn't start the fire)
Aunt Alice's Trailer, Wades Hideout, IOI Outlet, Gregarious Games, Hallidays Arcade...
A series of "VR Games" that are j a whole platform for me to make additional movie themed settings and games using the CK,
off the top of my head, Maze Runner Maze, StarCraft 3 VRCRAFT.

Obviously helping the Synth Butlers and freeing the stacks would ideally open it as a settlement location. As it is, you'll have to get Mobile Workshop or Conquest or some mod to build among the stacks.

Stack .nifs have Navmesh, that only likes to appear when grabbed in workshop mode. I wanted a script that would do that for all of them at first load.
This would allow me to preplace raiders and other baddies all over the stacks.

ITS STILL VERY POSSIBLE to place turrets everywhere, but for the sake of walking around and admiring the Stacks Ive left that out.
I can booby trap the Stacks hellishly if there is demand for that.

SBS MAXED OUT- The construction method for this makes it super possible to go probably... 50% to 300% bigger without graphics card suicide. It loads at 45-55fps on a GTX 1060, and Ive always wanted to see how big it could get while still above 30FPS. Not to mention that posterity will have better computers, so hey, go for broke, mod it til it breaks.
All in all, this mod has a lot of unmet potential.

I FINALLY RELEASED IT!

This project began before covid when I saw some impressive builds on a fb group, and put out a build challenge to make the Stacks.
However the effort required in even 1 stack was monumental and discouraged the creation of many.
So I learned CK and found a way to make super mashup nifs and minimize how many objects the game thinks its loading.
The Stacks were impossible as 50 stacks 20 stacks high, each level consisting of at least 10 objects each, quickly multiplying into like 10000 objects. Are you gonna place those by hand? I'd like to not. And the game doesn't want to either. So now it just thinks it's like 50 really big things.
I apologize for the long delay, and unfinished dreams. Life gets in the way. Thank you to everyone who has supported me, I worship anyone who throws me even the most basic instruction.

The default file for download requires loose file loading to be enabled.

To enable Fallout 4 to load all loose file folders in Fallout 4/ Data, make the following edits to your Fallout4.ini:

  • Under [Archive] add the following line: bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
  • Also under [Archive] change the value for sResourceDataDirsFinal= to blank (nothing after the equals sign).
  • If you are using Mo2, there is a button above your list of mods on the left. (load order is the list on the right) this button enables you to view and edit profile specific inis that replaces your existing ini files. As such, you need to perform these changes in that buttons screen, because whatever you put there will overwrite your FO4's real ini files. Other mod managers may have a similar function.
  • If you like messing with ini's I recommend this config tool. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/102/

If you want to load with .ba2 archives because you can't edit ini's then I have made a version that uses archives, but my textures load substandard and you can barely read the beautiful signs I have dedicated to the community.

If you use that version, change your mind and want the textures to be as beautiful as screenshots, simply remove the .ba2 files so the loose files take over.
Then go to a save point before you loaded The Stacks.

If you have trouble with NPCs walking on the stacks try picking them up in workshop mode and then cancelling the move.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This mod adds a large area, and might cause trouble with nearby areas. Most of that south boston wasteland area seemed unused though, so it should be fine.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some people may find trees in the way of key staircases. This is not a bug, it is a feature inviting you to explore the exciting prospect of jumping off your current tower onto a nearby one to get where you want to go. Serious. Its fun.
