Legend has it that the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) gifted the blade Zulfiqar to his cousin/son-in-law Ali Ibn Abi Talib, one of the first Caliphs and the first Imam of the Shia faith. The original blade is said to be in the possession of Muhammad al-Mahdi, the Twelfth Imam, who lives eternally in Occultation, hidden from human eyes by Allah himself.

To this day, talismans with a bifurcated scimitar are sold in much of the Muslim world, often bearing the words:

لَا سَيْفَ إِلَّا ذُو ٱلْفَقَارِ وَلَا فَتَىٰ إِلَّا عَلِيٌّ‎
lā sayfa ʾillā ḏū l-faqāri wa-lā fatā ʾillā ʿalīyun

"No Sword but Zulfiqar, no hero but Ali"

You'll find the sword in the Glowing Sea. If you want the exact location, check out the screenshots. If you want to find it yourself, start at Sentinel Site Prescott and work your way west and a little north.

The original story posted on my Patreon about Zulfiqar:

Muhammad Ali Anwan liked swords, but he had never seen an actual reproduction of Zulfiqar. The weapon was open to interpretation, of course.  If the original ever actually existed, it was supposedly in the possession of the Twelfth Imam of Shia. Who knew where it was now.  But that wasn't important to Ali.  The sword of his namesake would be his, he just needed to figure out how.
At 16, Ali got his first blade, a Chinese Officer Sword a soldier had captured on the battlefield some two centuries ago. He trained constantly, with anyone who would duel him. He scoured ruins of old museums and tracked down the homes of prolific collectors.  His armory grew from that first sword at 16 to fifty-seven blades of various types. All secured in a secret bunker only he knew about. But there was one blade that eluded him.
There weren't a lot of Muslims in Boston. Ali attended mass at a small mosque near Quincy. Imam Dashir, the mosque's founder, was a ghoul, a Muslim from before the war. It was Imam Dashir that first clued Ali into the location of a Zulfiqar reproduction in Boston. Ali had been babbling about swords after mass, and the Imam mentioned the legendary weapon.
Just prior to the war, Vault-Tec had set up the War Never Changes Touring Museum, and it had landed in Boston just before the bombs fell. The museum that had been hosting the show was utterly destroyed, as it was in the south of Massachusetts, where a very large bomb had exploded. However, the building had a fallout shelter, and most of the displays had been moved into it for storage while the museum was renovated.  The touring museum had been set to open just a few days after the bombs, November 1st, 2077.
The problem was, the shelter was sealed, and buried under tons of rubble. Ali had been working on the pile for weeks, popping RadX like candy to avoid his hair falling out. He had finally reached the entrance when trouble found him.
Word had somehow got out about the museum. Ali assumed it was something to do with the Gunners, as they had set up a rotating patrol to guard the building. All ghouls, too, so no problems with the Glowing Sea. They hadn't broken into the shelter yet, however. It had also been built by Vault-Tec and was impregnable as a fortress.
The Sole Survivor came to Quincy to clean up, it was the first time Ali met them. They were a legend, had supposedly destroyed both the Institute and the Brotherhood Airship. Ali found them to be humble, however, despite obviously being a serious badass. They were on a mission to restore Quincy to the thriving community it was before the Mercs showed up. Gunfire and laser musket sounds filled the night as the Sole Survivor and their Minutemen allies wiped out the Gunners in Quincy.
After a brief detour to Egret Tours, they came back to help set up the new settlement. Ali moved in and helped, drawing a small team of workers from his mosque. Walls were patched, crops were planted. It seemed to be going really well. But the Gunners have a memory, and they weren't happy about the casualties inflicted by the Minutemen.
The Sole Survivor had hurt them, but a wounded animal is the most dangerous. The mercenaries regrouped and were supposedly planning another attack on the town. A force was raised to defend, but Ali had other ideas. He came to the Sole Survivor with a plan.
Take the Vault. Distract them, divide their forces. Obviously, Ali was after the sword, but it was still a good plan. Ali was gifted a fancy Institute hazmat suit, while the Sole Survivor geared up in their ridiculously blue X-01 power armor. The story of how they got that was a fascinating one, involving an army of raiders and a "theme park," whatever the hell that was. They marched on the museum with twenty Minutemen and easily chased off the ghoul guards. They set up defensive positions and waited for the counter-attack they knew was coming.
And come it did, right before dawn the next day. Forty mercs, all armed and armored. It must have been the remains of their forces. The battle lasted all morning, the end result was the Minutemen holding the vault. What the attackers didn't know was the Minutemen General Garvey was taking out GNN, the Gunners' headquarters. It would spell the end of the mercenary group in the Commonwealth for many years.
After the dust settled from the battle, the Sole Survivor kept their promise to Ali and opened the vault. There were more treasures there, but Ali found his prize. It had been crafted in Iran around 1700, and was still in remarkable shape. The scimitar-like blade ended in the bifurcated point, as did most depictions of the Sword. The distinctive ridges carved into the back of the blade also made it very useful as a saw, Ali found. But mostly, it was a deadly weapon. Unlike most reproductions, this sword was swung in battle.
And half a millennium later, would be again.
