Chapter One: Conception
Have you every wondered why everyone in this game is of the six foot one variety? Do you ever think about how that's simply just not realistic? put a question mark? God you're horrible? *sigh*? um? uh? Are you tired of question marks? Shut up. Well we've thought about that too, a lot, and after an unspecified amount of time of cursing Todd and his unethical game, we decided to fix it.



Chapter Two: Birth

We spent many painstaking hours coding a google spreadsheet to contain all 695 of the named characters in this godforsaken game, then used funny google code to calculate the values that we needed to put into the glorious creation kit to make people certain heights and make some people's heights consistent across the two versions, since the height of the human race is changed to allow unnamed characters to spawn correctly. If you wanna see that mess, here ya go.

Chapter Three: What the Mod Actually Does

This mod changes the average height of human, ghoul, and one of the feral ghoul races to be either 5' 5" or 5' 10", depending on what option you choose. Children and the one ghoul child are also scaled appropriately. You may be asking, why dafuq would the average height be 5' 5"? Well, my dear traveler, there be a famine in these parts. When people no eat good amount grow, people no as tall. So the average height of the wasteland would be shorter than prewar and well feed people. This also means that the heights of people in the institute, prewar ghouls, and Jack Cabot exceptions are always scaled around the average height of 5' 10" in both versions, so Father isn't 4' 11" in the 5' 5" version, he's 6'. The other beautiful thing this mod does is individually change named character's heights so that everyone isn't exactly eye level with each other, like of course Finn is a short bastard and Travis is a walking monolith. It just makes sense, and works.

Chapter Four: Recomendatendemendations

It's highly recommended that you use the mods Universal Actor Scale Remover and FOV Slider and Player Height with this mod. What Scale Remover will do is stop the game from resizing character when they enter animations, because my god is that distracting and extremely noticeable with this mod. However, with this mod, since the scale of the actor will be off during the animation, there may be more clipping issues, especially when characters sit, but I'm pretty used to seeing clipping in Bethesda games so its no biggy. FOV slider is also recommended because it allows you to set the height of the player, while also allowing you to actually use terminals. This is really helpful because the default player height is 6' 1", which makes you a tall boye. As a side note, its also nice to play as a short character and actually see other short people, or play as a giant, sky's the limit, literally. Set the slider in MCM to 0.89 for 5ft 5 in, 0.96 for 5ft 10in.

Chapter Five: Compatibility

Anything that alters the Human Race, Ghoul Race, Ghoul Child Race, or Child Race will cause all heights of that race to not work properly. If a mod edits a single character, then it will only cause their height to not work properly. We will hopefully be coming out with patches for a lot of mods soon, and right now we have a patch for Looks Menu Customization Compendium because it was causing none of it's options to show up and it's impossible to live without that thing. If a specific character's height is not working for you, please make a bug report that says what mods you have affecting that character so that we can try to make a patch (If you're unsure FO4edit can tell you what mods are affecting what actors), until then their heights can be manually set in your game using the setscale command, though they'll reset for every new playthrough, here's a list of the values to use if they're heights are incorrect:  https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jiYhIWKEXo679YlcrxCBnNsQL7dDU_RoGEPqKDWOSUY/edit?usp=sharing.
Or you could just set the mod really low in your load order, but it'll overwrite any character appearance mods you downloaded, so I wouldn't recommend it.
If a patch comes out for the mod you needed, make sure to set their scales back to 1.
