About this mod

Makes Component Junk alone weightless. If you can break it down, you can take it home. My personal preference for a balance between cheats and HOARD ALL THE THINGS!

Another non-flashy mod, something to address an issue I've had with the game forever.

I'm a fan of the game's junk, from Abraxo to Yard Sticks. I build big in my settlements, and I'm a hoarder otherwise, so I need lots of junk. I've made mods that where you can craft it, mods where you can forge the better stuff, and mods where you just. get. more. JUNK!

So I gather as much as I can, and I've used a number of popular mods to deal with the fact that I never have enough carry weight. Usually, I just break down and open the console, mod it to a bazillion, and forget about it.  Inventory management is one of my least favorite parts of any game (a perfect example was Diablo II's HORRIBLE backpack, to me it made an otherwise perfect game nearly unplayable).

My favorite, and I think the most elegant, solution, has always been Salvage Beacons by kinggath. Of course, that adds a layer of crafting and interaction. Not the perfect solution for me.

Alternatively, I like Portable Junk Recycler by Kentington. At the very least, I could bust down my big junk items like Oil Cans and other heavy stuff and very painfully leave behind the stuff I won't need (mostly Steel, Wood, and heavy-ass Concrete).

So my rationale behind this mod is: If you can break it down, you can take it home.

My lore-friendly and role-playing rationale is: you've condensed your collected junk, either it's weight and size is insignificant, or you stashed it somewhere for later retrieval, safe from prying eyes and would-be thieves. For all intents and purposes, those materials are available to use to craft, no matter where you are in the Commonwealth, you just have to go get them. I just pretend all that happens in the background.

In terms of gameplay, all I have done is change the name and weight on the JUNK versions of the base components (Acid, Nuclear Material, Etc). I didn't mess with their models so I wouldn't have to do any loose files/archive nonsense on this mod. This is just an ESL-flagged ESP.

To make it as compatible or adaptable to as many mods as possible, especially sorting mods, I named them all "Component - Something Clever" (listed below).  I changed nothing else about their forms or anything else in the game with this mod.  I felt to do to much would conflict with the spirit of the mod.

I see this, personally, as a viable compromise between an inventory cheat and that desire to collect all 375 loose boxes of Abraxo in the game.

My renamed weightless junk items (They are all prefaced with "Component - " so are grouped together in your inventory):

Component - Evaporated Acid - Did you know acid isn't a liquid?
Component - Handy Adhesive - One bottle should last you forever
" " " - Local Aluminum - A local supply
" " " - Weightless Ballistic Fiber - Because future
Cached Antiseptic - Always have some nearby. A stapph infection can kill.
Asbestos (It's Everywhere) - It's in the walls.
Convenient Bone - Good thing there's all these dead people around
Broken Ceramic - A plate?
Stashed Circuitry - Make sure your cache is dry!
Scrap Cloth - Literally everywhere, same with wood, steel, and concrete.
Concrete (on the ground) - Self-explanatory
Hidden Copper - You know where you put it.
Lightweight Cork - If you carry enough cork to weigh you down, this mod is NOT going to help you.
Very Lightweight Crystal - You don't need very much.
Fertilizer Wagon - There's always a shitwagon.
Stored Fiberglass - Probably no on would take it, but you hide it anyway.
Concealed Fiber Optics - I won't say what these optics have seen.
Tiny Gears - You know, from watches.
Nearby Window Glass - If you can't find glass in a city...
Gold Certificate - They'll believe you have that much gold, you have a certificate.
Lucky Lead - I couldn't think of a clever thing for lead, so it's just lucky you have some laying around.
Preserved Leather - Skins are treated with oils for long term storage
Secreted Nuclear Material - Don't tell anyone where you keep this stuff, it's more precious that diamonds.
Pumped Oil - You keep your oil in the City's old oil distribution network.
Garbage Plastic - Don't get me started on the plastic.
Tire Rubber - Have you noticed there is a tire or two in this game?
Box of Screws - Everyone worth their salt in the Wasteland has a box of various screws.
Silver Voucher - Like a Gold Certificate. You could make a Fiat System off of this.
No Springs? _ Be careful what you wish for.
Salvaged Steel - Steel is metaphor for scrap metal. It's everywhere, too.
Wood (There's some)
