Delay Quest: Long Time Coming (Nick's Personal Quest)

Brief Description:
This mod delays the start of Nick's companion quest "Long Time Coming" until after the player has completed the detective case file quest "Gilded Grasshopper". The keeps Nick's dialogues open following the admiration affection gain so you can quest without being sidetracked for tapes.

Why I made it:
Though it makes sense for Nick to ask about hunting down Eddie Winter with him once you are close, this quest locks out a lot of location based dialogue. Rather than getting some of his unique dialogue when you talk to Nick he just instead asks about how the hunt for Eddie's tapes is going.

"Nick... we found 2 and we are in the middle of the glowing sea hiding from deathclaws right now... can this wait?"

Additionally, from an immersion perspective, I feel Nick has enough tact to not press the matter every time you talk to him. It made sense to me to have this be a personal case he brought to your attention after you have been working with him on his other cases first. Plus, this condition allowed the mod to be more seamless and not require a mod uninstall when you wanted to start the quest.

How it works:
This mod keeps all original requirements in place for "Long Time Coming" to trigger. You have to have high enough affection and have finished the main quest through the Memory Den. The mod adds a requirement for the "Gilded Grasshopper" to also have been completed for the quest dialogue to trigger. Once you have completed the "Gilded Grasshopper" and have all other requirements met, the quest conversation will trigger.

What this mod does not do:
This mod does not change the affinity gain dialogues in any way. The affinity conversation will trigger regarding Nick's struggles, but Nick will return to normal rather than asking about helping him hunt down Eddie Winter.

Technical Stuff:
This mod works by editing the conditions for the dialogue triggers and the conditions for Nick's AI package to trigger the quest.
These changes to conditions were made in the following files:
  • PAK: MS07cNickForcegreetQuestOfferPackage
  • PAK: MS07cGreetNickForcegreetOfferPackage
  • QUEST: MS07cGreetingHandler

Optional File: Hide Eddie's Tapes

This optional file removes the map location markers for the various tape locations from automatically being added when you view the terminals. The locations will appear if you discover them naturally, but viewing the terminal will not mark them on your map. If you have the quest tracked, the tape locations will still appear like any quest objective marker. Since anyone can turn off tracking the quest, I did not feel a need to mod this out.

I made this optional file because I was disappointed that the locations were automatically marked when you played. I prefer it to be more of a TSW style quest, though I understand that that level of investigation quest falls outside Bethesda's games.
