Preamble - Waffle

The other day I was sat having Skype call with my mate Elon (he does some weird stuff with cars and rockets), and he mentioned that he really wished he could play Fallout 4 on his crypto mining rig to save energy.  During a little bit of research to find if it was possible we found a research paper by Dr Fritz Bunwallah.  In this paper, titled "The Phenomenon of Temporary Enhancement of Temper due to Temporal Events", Bunwallah explains that since 2008 most graphic processing units can have a downtime of up to 50%, while the CPU works out calculations regarding the process, and then the CPU has a downtime of up to 30% as the GPU updates the screen and the process repeats.  "What if there was a way to harness this unused power?", we thought.

I managed to stop Elon Tweeting his joy (last time he was allowed to tweet anything unsupervised there was a little bit of trouble), and told him to do something useful to help.  He rang some guys up and told them to stop playing with the overgrown bottle rockets and find a solution.  And this is it.  I've been granted the rights to release it under the GNU General Public license, so if you find this useful, you can build on it.

The Sciencey Bit - *DUMMY MODE ON*

Fallout 4 uses SWF files for certain things like animations.  SWF is the widely known extension for Shockwave Flash.  As Flash is completely secure, offered no security vulnerabilities whatsoever and also enable net connectivity it was perfect to run a cryptominer.  The SWF had a library added to help it look for the DOING_FA (FA stands for freeze action) call which the graphics card and processor use to let one another know they're in down time, and the miner is then able to grab these unused cycles to process   As both the processor and graphics card are DOING_FA at the time it has no impact on game performance.

There is a slight drawback in terms of mining efficiency due to it only using the unused cycles, and you will get at most 50% of what you would from your mining rig (the average is about 30%).  If, however, you have multiple GPUs in your system it will also grab any cycles dedicated to them, and these will run at 100% if they are things like onboard graphics chips that have been disabled.

This mod will also help preserve your hardware.  Chips heat up and cool down as they're being used and have idle time respectively.  As the chip heats up it exerts thermal stress on the chip, and the sudden contraction as it stops being used adds even more stress.  By keeping your processors at a state of constant temperature it stops this stress from occuring.  It is completely normal for a processor or graphics chip to  hit a temperature of 6000° kelvin, and as the kelvin scale is smaller than centigrade or Fahrenheit it just sounds hot.

The installation - Things You Need To Do

1 - Download and install the mod.
2 - Create a text file on your desktop called nul.txt which will be used by CM to store your settings.  While the SWF can access this file, it cannot create it.
3 - Launch Fallout 4 and use the holotape that you will be given.

The first time you run the holotape, you need to go into settings and alter them to your pool value.  If you have a cryto wallet for any of the listed formats on your hard drive, you'll need to point to it (use CTRL to select multiple wallets) and enter their passwords.  This is purely so the cryptocoins can be added in real time (no more waiting for your pool to pay out).  I can't screenshot it because if you press ALT+F1 (Geforce) you get the SWF help file, and Print Screen just exits it.

Troubleshooting - There's always one idiot...

While my responses may seem terse, think of it as a form of self help.  If you're a total noob and I hold your hand through everything you'll never learn, but if I bully you then you might (or you might just go crying to mummy like the wuss you are).  Think of it like having a really shitty boss.  Anyway.

I can't create nul.txt
You're a total noob and don't deserve any crypto if you can't even create a file.  This also means your version of Windows is not legit, it has sent the police your IP address and they'll be around shortly to arrest you for piracy, and the local news will end up publishing your browsing history including your Care Bear and My Little Pony fetishes.

It takes ages to connect to my miningpool.
You're a total noob and don't deserve any crypto if you can't even get a decent net connection.

It keeps saying my username or password is wrong.
You're a total noob and don't deserve any crypto if you can't even remember your own login details.

Why does the pool server name say iqoniqpool?
You're a total noob and don't deserve any crypto if you can't even work out my mod is totally legit.  Would I even highlight this if I was trying to scam you?

Why is smoke and sparks coming from my graphics card/CPU?
You're a total noob and don't deserve any crypto if you can't even figure out this is completely normal and the fumes are perfectly harmless (just stuff like benzene, hydrogen cyanide, and carbon monoxide which are all in the air you breathe anyway) .  Just open a window if you start feeling dizzy or can't breathe.

What is that godawful sound?
You're a total noob and don't deserve any crypto if you can't even work out it's either your fan bearings or pump dying.  Or it could be connect sound.

My PC has melted.
You're a total noob and don't deserve any crypto if you can't even get a computer that has cooling that can deal with temperatures equal to the sun and keep the processor and GPU at zero kelvin.  It's not my fault you can't follow instructions.

This mod doesn't work.
You're a total noob and don't deserve any crypto if you can't even bear witness to the sheer greatness that are my mods!  They do work but you're doing it wrong.

I'm going to endorse you right now!
You're a total noob and don't deserve any crypto if you can't even... oh wait!  Thanks.

Why is there a picture of Paris and Baileyzebub?
Because you're a total noob.  And reasons.

Why is Baileyzebub wearing a bow tie?
Because you're a total noob.  It's also April 1st which means it's International Dogs Wearing Bowties day, and my mums birthday.  Happy birthday mum!

Conclusion - Fin!

As this mod is highly experimental expect odd results to occur.  This mod isn't endorsed by Elon Musk (probably, maybe he plays Fallout 4 and has a sense of humour), anyone who works for Tesla, or anyone.  It is endorsed by my dogs, but they'll do anything (including wearing a bow tie) for spogs (I was gobsmackked to realise they had a name other than "the things with bobbles on them"), and don't have a Nexus account.

Footnotes

In case it's not completely obvious, this mod is a joke.  It does do something if you install it, but it's not malicious.  There is nothing in this mod that does anything with cryptomining, or anything at all after the first run.  The SWF file is a just a text file with something to inflate it's size (take a look in Notepad or Notepad++) which didn't include 256,000 spaces.

This mod is enrolled into the Donation Point program, but 100% of the DP goes to charity.
