About this mod

Rads of the Two Trees will make the perks Rooted and Solar Powered more useful and add give them a few more features.

Permissions and credits

Rads of the Two Trees (RTT) is a mod that expands and increases the usefulness of the Rooted and Solar Powered perks by adding new features and a bit of a connection between them.

Notice that all new mechanics added by this mod only will affect you when you have the relevant perks. The following features will be affected:

  • Health regeneration from rain or sunlight
  • Experience Points gained
  • Healing radiation damage
  • Strength and Endurance

Unlike the vanilla game, the effects of Solar Powered will now actually depend on whether it's sunny, by taking into account what times the sun is up, and what the weather is like. RTT is based on the same system for time as Night Stalker, where the definitions go as follows:

8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. – Night

6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. – Dawn

7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. – Day

7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. – Dusk

Additionally, RTT introduces Noon, which is defined as the time from 10:00 a.m. to 14:00 p.m.

Descriptions for the Rooted perk in the game

  • Rank 1

"You're part tree! While standing still, you gain +25 Damage Resistance and Energy Resistance, and your melee and unarmed attacks deal 25% more damage."

  • Rank 2

"While standing still, you now gain +50 Damage Resistance and and Energy Resistance, and your melee and unarmed attacks deal 50% more damage."

  • Rank 3

"While standing still, you may automatically disarm enemies that use melee weapons against you. Standing still in the rain now regenerates your lost Health."

Descriptions for the Solar Powered perk in the game

  • Rank 1

"Catch some rays! When the sun is shining, and especially around noon, you gain more XP, and have +2 to Strength and Endurance."

  • Rank 2

"You now gain more XP from sunlight, and have +4 to Strength and Endurance. Sunlight now also regenerates your lost Health."

  • Rank 3

"You gain even more XP from sunlight. At noon, if you're part tree and bow down, sunlight heals your radiation damage and regenerates more of your lost Health."

As the descriptions suggest, all the bonuses from the Rooted perk are centered around you standing still and not moving, just like in the vanilla game. Most can be used anywhere, but the ability to regenerate your lost Health in the rain obviously requires you to be outside. This ability also cannot be used if you are wearing any form of Power Armor or Power Armor frame, because they would prevent you from having contact with the ground. The Rooted perk does not depend on the sunlight, which means that as long as all the other conditions are filled, you can take full advantage of this perk at any time of the day. You must have at least rank 1 of the Rooted perk in order to enjoy some of the benefits from rank 3 of the Solar Powered perk.

All bonuses from the Solar Powered perk require the sun to be shining in order to be active. Unlike in Night Stalker, wearing a Hazmat Suit in RTT will not prevent sunlight from affecting you. As such, you will benefit from this perk even when wearing a Hazmat Suit. In terms of wearing Power Armor, the only piece that will determine whether or not the bonuses can be active is the helmet. In other words, as long as you are not wearing a Power Armor helmet, you will be able to take full advantage of the Solar Powered perk, but if you are wearing a Power Armor helmet, you will not be able to enjoy any of the perk's features. The same thing of course applies if you are inside, it's night, or it's raining. Another noticeable difference from Night Stalker (version 2.1 and onward) is that RTT only looks at the cell to determine whether it's sunny, whereas Night Stalker will take light levels into consideration. Finally, in order to use the abilities unlocked with rank 3 of the Solar Powered perk, it requires you to both sneak and not move, in order to "bow down" to the Earth.

This mod is open to feedback and ideas for additional modifications and improvements to be made.

As of version 1.1, during noon, you gain even more Experience Points than during the rest of the day. This version also reduces the amount of radiation damage you can heal by 80% when using the bowing feature unlocked with Solar Powered rank 3.

Using Vortex is the recommended method.

This mod is simple and can be installed without the need for creating a new character. Just be careful if you already have any of the affected perks, since their effects will be drastically different from what they were before. In that case, there may or may not be issues.

All you need is Fallout 4.

RTT should be compatible with most mods, unless they affect the same perks or their related assets.
