I'm surprised I haven't seen this posted yet. It sure beats the alternative invisible weapon equip and it sure beats any scripts out there. But, if you play a stealthy commando and want to snap some necks without wasting a bullet, this is a necessity.

Since posting this mod, Fallout 4 Hotkeys has updated their article: Here
Now they have several options for un-equiping items. I'm leaving this mod up because it's not a well known fix for a common problem.

FO4 Hotkeys - It's not even a mod, just a utility to set hotkeys beyond what the game lets you set. Highly recommended.
Instructions (Outdated See Description):
Replace the Hotkeys.ini with this mod or simply just add
to the bottom of the Hotkeys.ini, like:
spd=sucsm 3
[Hotkeys]
F2=tm
F3=tfc
Z=player.cf equipitem c2c27 0 1
Then run the enable_hotkeys.cmd to inject the new hotkeys. Read the FO4 Hotkeys mod for any further questions.
