For me it was too damn difficult trying to string wires into the nooks and crannies where I placed my security cameras from the Settlement Ambush Kit. Now they use passive power the same way lamps, etc. do. Just make sure you have a source of passive power in the vicinity and you're good to go. For existing cameras you've already placed and wired that also happen to be near a source of power -- just remove the wire, store the power source/conduit, then place it again in same spot and the camera will recognize it.
Note: this requires the Creation Club's Settlement Ambush Kit be installed.
