Please, this comment is not a negative about the mod, but your guess of Nate's age in the game is off. He is closer to 28 to 30, not 40. Betesda always insists on making everyone in their game look older than they are, or need to be, it has to be some internal fetish of theirs. But your mod does make more sense in the end, and for that i will be giving it a try.
The main reason is that Nate and most young men in a war situation like in the Fallout story, would have been drafted into the army when they reached 18 years old. You would have to had special dispensation to keep from getting drafted. Such as coming from a wealthy family, and then paying your way out of it, or your grades were high enough that it was better to let you go to University first and then grab you. The character Nate as far as we know, has none of this, so he would have been drafted right out of high school. He then serving his mandatory 4 years. That would put him at 22 years of age when released. This would also align with Nora going to college and earning her law degree in that time, so she would have been the same age. It's possible that Nate and Nora are Highschool sweethearts, but as far as I know, there is nothing in the lore to allude to this.
It always bothered me a bit that Bethesda made Nate the age they did, when his whole story revolves around him being drafted and then earning his discharge. Unless he serves two consecutive tours of duty, which is a possibility and he would have then been 26, not the 30+ they made him. So he would have been about 22 to 23, great mod and I very well might use it in my next playthrough. Although i never use the name of Nate for character.

His age could have been anywhere between the mid 20's and the early 40's.
Just because your are drafted doesn't mean you are 18 when you are drafted. In times of crisis, you are drafted at the age you are when the draft order comes down - which can vary greatly between the ages of 18 and the mid-late 30's.Just depends on how severe the circumstances are and how many people they feel they need.

From the comments when you select her Law Degree, at least in my mind it seems to suggest he was at least there during part if not all of the process to get that degree ( usually 3 or more years).Either in a relationship at the time or already married, and waiting till it is complete to start a family.To me that seems like the sensible thing to do, and kinda suggests to me he met her after his time in the military, not before.
If it was me, I'd put them in their early 30's.Say 30-34. Probably got drafted in his early to mid 20's.Did his time and got out.Needed a period of time to adjust, met a woman, and started planning their future.
This isn't lore, just an opinion from someone who spent 15 years in the military - and saw ALOT of relationships go down the drains when people were in the military.
My only major gripe - if he were a rookie, he would either have no hair or just a little on the top. Otherwise, this preset is lore-friendly. Assuming he wasn't already in the Army when the Sino-American War broke out, he was most likely drafted. It is possible, however unlikely, he enlisted on his own. Even without the draft, he was probably going to serve anyway.
