Note: Compatibility with Fallout 4 VR is untested, use at your own risk.
Long story short, I have a very sensitive hearing. This fact made my initial playthrough of Fallout 4 a miserable experience due to Bethesda's mindless overuse of brown noise and easily noticeable samples with distinctively "musical" sound patterns which kept repeating over and over again.
So eventually my patience ran out, I downloaded some modding tools and reduced the most of annoying sounds to near zero, while keeping the rest intact.
To be specific:
- Outsides of urban ruins will no longer feature a "musical" metallic whining of skyscrapers, which I got tired of after about 1 hour of exploration
- Beds, wooden panels, sanctuary ruins and Vault 111 will no longer produce loud annoying creaks (and the creak SFX in general)
- Basement's interior low humming noise was reduced from deafening to "tolerable" background levels
- Cave, subway, Sanctuary and vault rumble noise's volume (and the rumble effects in general) were also reduced
- Cryopod humming was reduced to background levels
The length of audio is unchanged, thus ensuring nothing will break in-game.
