A Naturally Dark Preset for Fallout 4
By Rhaenysa

Looking for a Reshade preset that will make the Commonwealth less monotone? Want dark nights, beautifully clear colors, and contrast without sacrificing too much lore-friendliness? Check out ONYX, the second in my series of Reshade presets to make your Fallout 4 experience a bit more beautiful. My last preset, RUBY, was for those who loved vibrant colors -- this one's for you au-natural folks. Okay, it's still fairly saturated. I can't force myself to make a bland, boring Wasteland. I just can't. But! If you're striving for those natural but still clear, crisp colors, ONYX may be for you.

HOW TO INSTALL

First things first, download the Reshade Framework

Next, you'll want to extract from the ZIP file that you just downloaded a folder called "Reshade" and the file "Reshade.fx". You can ignore the rest of the files in the ZIP (they're mostly for if you want to make a preset yourself).

Then, put the "Reshade" folder and "Reshade.fx" file into your Fallout 4 directory. This is typically located at "\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Fallout 4". DO NOT PUT IT IN YOUR DATA FOLDER.

Next up, download the ONYX Reshade Preset ZIP here. You gotta do it manually. No NMM here.

Extract all the files from the ONYX Reshade Preset ZIP.

Copy and paste all those files into your Fallout 4 directory (again, typically at "\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Fallout 4". Not your data folder. The same place you put the framework.)

When you get a pop-up that asks if you want to copy and replace -- YES, copy and replace for all conflicts. When it asks to merge the "Reshade" folder -- YES.

ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED. You did it.

F.A.Q.

Q: How do I install this?
A: Literally read the description. It's right there above you.

Q: I want dark nights. Should I use a mod that makes nights darker?
A: This will pretty much do the job for you. Unless you want literally pitch black nights, I wouldn't change the vanilla nights.

Q: What kind of performance do you get with this preset?
A: Really performance friendly, but let me know if you have issues.

Leave me any questions you have and I'll update this.
