About this mod

Turn components into matter, and matter into components! What do you mean this is just Equivalent Exchange in Fallout 4?

Update: Mod has been abandoned
No longer really playing the open world Bethesda games anymore, nor modding them for that matter. If you want to have a go at fixing the mod and/or making it a bit more polished, I give you carte blanche to do so, just as long as my name is still attached somewhere as a credit. There's probably a CC license for that, but I can't be bothered to find it right now. I recommend future iterations of the mod being based on converting components directly into caps instead of matter like done here, and turning the exchange table into something like the Sink in FNV's Old World Blues DLC (a literal cap sink, heh).

------------------------------------------------------------

A tad frustrated that most component crafting mods won't let you turn more expensive components into more basic ones, I made this, a mod that adds a middleman component to turn every component into every other component. This is my first ever mod, so please be gentle. This is also totally not a riff on the Equivalent Exchange mod from Minecraft, trust me.

The Table itself

  • The Exchange Table itself requires no perks to build, but some harder to get materials than most crafting benches
  • Can be found in the Crafting section of the workshop
  • This is what allows you to turn stuff into matter and vice versa
  • Very useful for if you have a lot of one component, but not a lot of others

Matter

  • The aforementioned middleman component
  • Made based on the component's base value, e.g. 1 wood = 1 matter, but 1 gold = 9 matter
  • Can use an equal amount of matter to make a component

FAQ

What in the world is an Ichor sac?!
It's a Bloodbug sac but with green blood. You should be able to find them
rarely in Super Mutant meat piles and other places like that. If you have a clutter/junk crafting mod, finding them will be a lot easier. I wanted at least something to be a limiting factor on crafting the Table, at least something more than 3 fusion cores.
Is this compatible with [THING]?
Probably. The mod really only adds the Table, Matter, and recipes. It doesn't and/or shouldn't be messing with anything else that matters.
Is this on Bethesdanet?
Not yet. I plan on that soon, once I get the mod more polished than it is. New models n' stuff like that.
Crafting is a pain.
That's not a question first of all, secondly, the menu jumping to other options after crafting is a known issue with all mods that add recipes for the same object. Not much that I can do about it as the mod is right now. Might tweak the mod to alleviate that later.
Are you planning on adding more?
Definitely. I just wanted to get a 1.0 out for now. I'm planning on adding basic food, water, and maybe chem crafting with matter later. If you guys really want me to add matter crafting for all the items, let me know, but I make no promises.
Isn't this broken with other component crafting mods?
Yes, and that definitely wasn't my intention. If you're fine with that, that's cool. I've certainly done something similar with other mods in other games.
Are you sure this isn't Equivalent Exchange for Fallout 4?
Abso-posi-lutely.

Installation
  • Just use the Vortex link
  • Or drag and drop into Fallout 4's Data folder, whatever your style is
Uninstallation
  • Be sure to turn all your Matter back into components before uninstalling. Don't wanna loose out on all that sweet, sweet value!
  • Then you can disable and/or delete ExhcangeBench.ESP
