So picture this: You're at that intersection near Hangman's Alley where Diamond City Security is eternally fighting Super mutants. You join the battle, wielding an automatic weapon and maybe some grenades, and as you go to waste a mutie some idiot guard rushes in with a swatter. Now you're fighting the DC guards as well as the mutants.
This is where the Neuralyzer comes in.
The device comes in two categories: Single Target, and Crowd Control
Single Target: - Neuralyzer MIB - Reproduction of the movie prop - Neuralyzer Camera - Uses the pre-war camera model. Because why not? - Neuralyzer Pistol - Uses the Alien Blaster model.
All Single-Target weapons use the Neuralyzer Pistol Ammo
Crowd Control: - Neuralyzer Grenade - Uses the Nuka Grenade model, will work on small crowds (@5-6) - Neuralyzer Fat Man - Uses the Fat Man model, fires modified Neuralyzer Fat Man Shells. Will pacify large crowds (@10-20)
All weapons and ammo are made in the Chem Bench under "Neuralyzer".
If you want to know if the Neuralyzer as a concept is lore-friendly, keep in mind that Fallout 3 had the Mesmatron which could hypnotize people into delivering themselves to slavers. Think of the Neuralyzer as Mezmatron Light.
Known Issues:
The fatman may crash your game if used indoors, and the camera takes up like 2/3rds of the screen. If you use The Machine, and Her by NikaCola, don't use The Neuralyzer on Kit. It kills her for some reason. Currently trying to figure out why. The Neuralyzer will also kill spotlights and damage turrets. Probably because they can't be pacified.
