About this mod

Changes the Idiot Savant perk to something more intelligent. Because a Savant is focused very narrowly on one thing, where Fallout 4's Idiot Savant perk is focused on getting boatloads of everything *except* smarts.

Also changes that moronic giggle.

Permissions and credits
To be blunt, the Idiot Savant concept used ingame is cuckoo - it lets you get more experience for having a dumb character and "justifies" it in a very lame way. In reality a Savant is ultra-narrowly focused on one skill and has zero skills in other things - think putting all your perk points into (for eg) Agility and Rifleman with all the other SPECIAL stats at 2-4 and no other perk/skills at all.

This doesn't make any sense whatsoever. (Yeah I'm talking about sense in a game LOL! Perhaps "consistency" would be a better word.)

In real life there are very smart and multiskilled people out there: Autodidacts, Polymaths, etc. These people have wide interests and the focus/discipline to really dig into multiple subjects and get very good at them. (Call it the 10,000 hours to become expert, if you want.)

So I've changed Idiot Savant to Autodidact to reflect this style of gameplay.

Yes, there are already mods which change this: Genius Game and Better Idiot Savant for starters.

What has been changed:

* the perk proc chance is 5% (1 in 20) - regardless of the Sole Survivor's Intelligence
* changed that moronic giggle to the "swoosh" sound that you get when Four Leaf Clover kicks in
* changed the giggling idiot animation to the Intelligence book-reading animation

That's all, some real simple stuff.

F.A.Q.

Q: Your mod broke my game!
A: Uninstall this mod and revert to an earlier game save.

Q: Why did you use a flat proc rate? Why didn't you scale it upwards with Intelligence?
A: Several reasons:

1/ The game already scales XP gain with Intelligence - the Sole Survivor gets +3% per Intelligence (which is pretty good with Road Goggles and Sharp legendary items)

2/ It was overkill. Serious overkill with an 11 Int character, Road Goggles, and several pieces of Sharp legendary items. We are talking ultra-steep XP over-gain overkill.

3/ Imagine the proc rate and XP gain with several pieces of Unyielding armor or the Hubologist's alignment treatments (while they last).

4/ 'Cause I felt like it.

Q: That's too much XP gain! You're cheating! RAWR! Etc etc etc.
A: Nah. Here's the numbers. The tl/dr:

Autodidact 1: A flat +10% XP bonus across the board, regardless of the Sole Survivor's Intelligence.
Autodidact 2: A flat +20% XP bonus across the board, regardless of the Sole Survivor's Intelligence.
Autodidact 3: Like Autodidact 2, with additional +200% for kills for 60 seconds once it procs (depends too much on gameplay style to properly determine - though obviously better for players who favor combat over settlement-building).

So in some ways it's worse than the original Idiot Savant perk. The real advantage that it has is the % XP gain is static across the board, regardless of the Sole Survivor's actual Intelligence. Effectively it makes characters level up faster - however you get that anyway from having a character with a higher Intelligence. While an extra +10/20% is a nice bonus, it's not a massive game-changer. It just lets a higher-smarts character gain essentially the same benefits from using a couple of perk points that a low-smarts character gains.

For the vanilla Idiot Savant 3 perk - a Sole Survivor with 2 Intelligence and who rushes into combat a lot is going to benefit more. Simply because it procs 2x as much as this one.
