Yet Another Prydwen Overhaul

UPDATE 7/27/2019 - Optional version with changes to the Cambridge Police Station removed. This includes the connected workbenches as well, so it is a totally vanilla space now. Any conflicts with other mods will be resolved with this version. If you wish to make a patch instead, let me know and I will be glad to link to the your patch on this page. My time is very limited right now and I just don't have the time to do them myself.

I know what you're thinking.. "But we already have several Prydwen overhauls. Why do another one?!" Well, those are great mods, but this is just my take on it. I wanted go by in-game lore available and concept art instead of just adding stuff for looks. I spent time studying NPC dialogue, reading everything I could find in and out of game, and also looking at schematics for real life rigid airships, submarines, and aircraft carriers. I wanted to make it look as believable as possible while still fitting the theme of the Fallout universe and with Bethesda's concept and ideas for the ship.

So, let's talk about what I've done here!

**Special note: This mod will be not be available for PS4. Sony has restrictions in place on mods that change precombine data files. I had to rebuild the precomb files to make this mod a reality and I cannot upload it for the PS4 due to this.

What I've Changed/Added/Done

  • Changed the general atmosphere and looks of the various interior areas of the Prydwen and the Cambridge Police Station. The actual layout has not changed since I wanted to keep what Bethesda designed, but improve on what was already there to match what is said/written about the ship.
  • Added usable water coolers scattered around. If you look at a concept art of the Prydwen Main Deck, you'll see one attached to the wall, so I incorporated this.
  • Updated the Cambridge Police Station to upgrade better throughout the story and look/feel like a command post for the area. Added a medic (doctor services) that shows up with the reinforcements after the Prydwen arrives.
  • Added a scripted Vertibird summon system to the Flight Deck and to the roof of the Police Station. More info on this below.
  • Connected workbenches in the Prydwen (some have been removed though) together and workbenches inside/outside the Police Station together. A weapons workbench will show up inside the Police Station after it reaches Act III of the story. The Boston Airport workshop bench has NOT been linked.
  • Lots of tiny little easter eggs hidden in plain sight. These are all little nods to terminal entries and random dialogue you can pick up on. See if you notice them all!

What I Did NOT Do

  • Touch any exterior areas or mess with any exterior precombs/previs data. You're safe to use anything that messes with the Boston Airport area or around Cambridge without fear of things breaking.
  • Add any overpowered items or crazy amount of loot. Most all items are individual and hand placed, not static collections or new meshes. There aren't a ton though and mostly junk items for scenery. Sorry, the mess hall isn't overflowing with 50 cans of Cram and it won't be.... the mess officer even says that rations are low.
  • Touch leveled lists, vendor lists, NPC data, etc... this isn't a BOS overhaul. Just a location mod.
  • The Prydwen Quarters have not been touched by me at all.... use any mod you like that lets you customize that area.
  • No vanilla lights have been moved or adjusted. Only a few (less than 10) new lights have been added out of necessity.

Vertibird Fast Travel System

Using Agamemnon01's Vertibird Travel From Prydwen mod (used per permissions and giving him all the credit for making this amazing piece of scripting wizardry), I have added a function to the flight deck and the Police Station roof to summon a Vertibird to fast travel from.

On the Prydwen Flight Deck, go to the small control room overlooking the deck and press the Recall button (big red button). You'll get a pop up notice that you need to go inside the Command Deck and press the Recycle Land Arm button as well... MAKE SURE YOU DO THIS. If you don't, it won't work. The recycle landing arm button is on the right set of consoles down where Captain Kells is on the bridge. Then go back out, hop on your Vertibird, and use your PipBoy map to select where to go.

The Police Station one is far simpler. On the roof, attached to the side of the Deep Range Transmitter on the radio tower, is a red button. Press it and wait for the Vertibird to land.

Final note.... make sure you've completed the Fort Strong quest before you try and do any of this. The Vertibird summon system is tied to the grenades that Maxson gives you after completing it. That triggers the entire system to start up. If you don't... well, nothing happens and you'll think it's broken.

Note on Compatibility

Obviously, anything that makes any change to the interior of the Prydwen or the Cambridge Police Station is not going to work with this mod. This includes all of the other Prydwen overhauls out there. I have tested the following non-overhaul mods and here is what works:
  • Listening Post Zulu by RedRocketTV - works fine. I actually made sure the table that the object spawns on in Maxson's room stayed clear so nothing clips.
  • Elianora's Faction Housing Overhaul - Prydwen Quarters - works fine as long as you load Eli's mod BEFORE mine. My mod overwrites her link system and removes several workbenches. If there is enough demand, I will make a patch for the whole Boston Airport connection. Otherwise, PM me and I will tell you how to make your own patch.
  • Ad Victorium! A Brotherhood of Steel Overhaul - sort of works. The Cambridge Police Station will have some weird visual glitches due to the armory he added. You can go in there and it "works" but it's gonna look crazy. I am trying to get a patch working, but it's giving me trouble. I will upload it as soon as I can. Otherwise, seems to work fine.
  • Tested with several lighting mods, such as ELFX, NAC Interiors, Fr4nsson's Light Tweaks, Interiors Enhanced, and Ultra Interior Interior Lighting. These all work just fine as far I could tell. If something isn't right or giving you trouble, post a bug report.

If you run in to any other mods affecting the Prydwen that you want to know if they work or not, send me a PM and I will take a look. Those are the most popular and the ones I focused on.

Installation and Load Order

Install with the mod manager of your choice or drag/drop the ESP and BA2 in to your data folder. The ESP should be fairly low in your load order. This is due to the new precombine time stamp and previs data that needs to be activated with higher priority... if you load in to the interior cells and see missing walls, floors, weird flashes of light, then you have a mod that is overwriting this data. Try moving my mod closer to the bottom and see if it works and THEN send me a PM with your load order so I can see what's up.

IF YOU ARE LOADING THIS MOD IN TO A CURRENT SAVE GAME WHERE YOU HAVE BEEN TO THE PRYDWEN PLEASE DO THE FOLLOWING:
Every time you enter a cell, the game saves data  on lots of stuff inside. If you load this mod during a current playthrough where you have been to the Prydwen, please go to another interior cell and do a cell reset (wait for 30 days). You can use a bat file, search on Google for it, and that will increase game time and purge the cell buffers. That should fix everything that happens with floating Nuka Colas and other misc objects.

What's Next?!

Glad you asked! I am still tweaking a few things and I have several other things in mind I want to do. I am planning on adding some interactivity between radiant quests and some special rewards on the ship. I also want to continue making changes to the Police Station and make it look better. Last, I would like to add some new recon stations around the Commonwealth that will act as very basic stop/recoup/workbench areas. These will unlock as the story progresses and I might have some player interaction through quests. This mod is kind of my little hobby and I will tweak and add things all the time... releasing updates when I feel they are ready.

I hope you enjoy your new Prydwen and let me know if you find anything strange or have suggestions!
