Special thanks once again to Rico Navarro & Wardaddy for such a kickass weapon. Install instructions are on the description page & docs tab.
The apparel placement uses the default back diagonal position similar to that used in Friffy's Just Visible Holstered Weapons mod. It's not perfect & it will clip or not sit just right on some CBBE meshes.
This mod is more like a modders resource & is suited more for those who use Outfit Studio, Nifskope & FO4Edit
Hey folks. Version 1.1 is available. The MG34 & MG38 variations of the visible weapon can now be crafted. The stickers from the original weapon mod can now be applied to your visible weapon. I also added an ESL version of the mod for those of you skirting the boundaries of your plugin list.
The visible weapon uses slot 58 so as long as the CC backpack doesn't use the same slot it should work. However you may need to use outfit studio to change the positioning of the apparel item / visible weapon as it will probably clip with the CC modular backpack. I don't have any CC content myself so I have no way of testing. Try it out & see how it looks.
Great Job, really, and so fast - but.......... you can NOT carry this weapon like shown here. It is to long and to heavy to be carried like this. It weights approximately 30 pound or 15 kg. When you have to carry it over longer distances, you wear it above and across your shoulders and during an assault-run, you have it on a long leather belt that goes from your left shoulder across your chest to your right hip. In that position you don't really aim but only point in the rough direction of the enemy. The "Bonesaw" has so high a cadence (1500 shots /m) that you don't need to aim, it is only to hold the enemies down. But I guess, it is too much effort to make a suiting animation. Please don't take this as criticism. It's a good job anyhow. Thank you.
Your welcome. Another "Fun-Fact" if you want: This weapon needs two Barrels. You always have a second Barrel with you because you have to change the Barrel every 200 -300 shots as it gets too hot for longer use. This change can be done within a few seconds. There's a lever on the right side of the Barrel housing which you simply push forward and it will release the barrel in use. This can now be pulled out of the housing and the other Barrel can be pushed in. A good trained gunner does this within 3 seconds and continues the fire-fight. And of course, you have an asbestos glove to retract the hot Barrel. This "Barrel-change procedure" is the reason why this weapon was never mounted in vehicles.
I've seen old photos & documentaries that show the belt & soldiers carrying it but its still interesting to know the logistics of the weapon. When it came to the gun barrels, did they swap out the same two barrels or was there a point when both barrels would need to be cooled for a longer period. For example, the DDay landings on Normandy beach, how many gun barrels would a gunner have gone through during the initial 24 hours?
During D-Day, most MG's were the MG 34. Those who had the MG 42 had the usual two Barrels some of them had three or four when they were in a fortified position. But usually they had only two. These Barrels had a maximum use of approximately 500 shots. So when changed around 200-300 shots, they were not at their limit. And they cool down very fast.
Talk to your settler, tell him you want trade things. When his inventory window opens up, transfer the (holster) MG42 VW01 apparel item over to him. Equip it (T by default). The weapon will be on his back. Do the same thing with your companions. The pic from the mod page is Piper with the mg42 on her back.
You can get the drawn/holstered effect with companions too by using a follower mod that lets you configure in combat/out if combat outfits. Kind of the companions version of what Visible Weapons does for you. Works well, and is really fun to see it in action. (Theres a vid on the Wasteland Tactical page showing it working using Amazing Follower Tweaks, if you want to see how it looks.) Thanks again Johnny.
My pleasure. I remember opening up the service rifle version of C_VWAS in FO4Edit to see how he did it & it was sea of constructable objects, omods & material swaps. The amout of time & patience needed to set that up is staggering. I wish him the best of luck
Deadpool's Service Rifle actually holds a special place in my heart: It was the weapon mod the nearly 'broke' me. While making the holster for the Service Rifle, I had this sense of "There's no way I'm going to ever finish this mod." due to the sheer complexity of customisability of the mod. I came close to falling sick making that mod; it was just hours on end planning, typing out, and copying and pasting entry after entry into FO4Edit.
Deadpool's Service Rifle was definitely my most demoralising mod, but it was a lesson nonetheless. After making the Service Rifle for C-VWAS, I feel as if no weapon mod in existence is impossible to make a holster of; all that's needed is what you said: Time and Patience.
Interesting insight into the creation of that mod. I can only imagine the endless copy pasta. I'm glad it didn't kill you & you came out stronger. You got a good attitude man, keep up the good work.
Nice work man, looks awesome. The weapon does look amazing, cant wait to use it (someday when I actually play the game again). I will use this to make a pack version and include it in my update when I get to it, if thats cool with you, and/or you can include it as an option in this.
Zachtan is a hero for the effort he puts in on customization, for sure. Its insanely laborious, if you ask me. I have every intention to add more customization options to the items in my mod, but its so time consuming it ends up being at the expense of the depth of the mod overall. I dont know how he managed to do all the weapons he did so well, he must have learned how to both freeze time and go into a meditative trance state to be able to produce what he has... ;)
Anyway thanks man, much needed component to a great new weapon mod, good stuff.
Awesome work on the weapons on pack mod btw. Very slick setup man. I agree with you that too much customization is a time killer & can effect the mod. There needs to be a balance in their somewhere.
Zachtan is veritable dynamo when it comes to visible weapons. C-VWAS is such a great concept, makes you wonder why Bethesda didn't use a similar setup when the game was first released.
Go ahead and make a pack version, that would be cool.
Thanks you so much for making this. I can definitely appreciate the effort and initiative that you have taken in making this mod. I'm definitely looking forward to bringing the MG-42 to you guys in C-VWAS; hopefully during my summer break.

I never would have known.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't mean to make it seem like Zachtan did anything wrong, he's just a busy dude who cant get to stuff immediately which is fine.
