About this mod

Make swords great again ;)

WHAT IT DOES

It adds a very late medieval / early renaissance greatsword to the game. Also known in other countries as claymore, montante, spadone, zweihaender, epee de guerre, or similar names.

You get a choice of three different blades (long lenticular, flambard or diamond section) and two crosses (curved and spiral straight). The larger lenticular blades cause slightly more stagger and a moderate ammount of bleeding, while the stiff diamond section blade is armour-piercing, but otherwise they're mostly an aesthetic choice. The combination of curved cross and the included diamond blade is a combination almost exclusively used in Denmark, while that grip with the straight cross and lenticular blade is technically a lowland claymore. But it's similar enough to other greatswords, especially German ones. (A lot of Scottish claymores actually used German blades.) Or you can build any combination that suits your style more. You will need at least 1 level of Blacksmith perk to forge a new blade or cross for your sword.

It starts somewhat tame in damage potential, but each level of the Blacksmith perk allows you to upgrade your sword's heat treatment, to increase damage significantly. Unlike the blades and crosses, these upgrades do NOT give you a boxed item when removed, since it's not an actual component you're producing. It's basically the same idea as sharpening your sword in Skyrim.

Fully upgraded, it does the same physical damage as a sledge hammer with the Nuka World upgrades, but without the fire or electrical damage or such. It swings faster, though, and has a higher crit multiplier, so it should actually do top-end dps.

Basically I'm aiming for the same balance point that Bethesda thought is a good endgame weapon.

IF you have a mod that lets you put legendary effects on stuff, you can put one on the greatsword too.

Being a sword, it can remove limbs, but not explode them. However, if you have the perk that explodes enemies, well, I can't prevent that.

Made with the Creation Kit and FO4Edit, if you care about that kinda thing.

HOW TO GET IT

Vendors, trunks, dressers, cabinets, boss crates, even the occasional high level raider. It shouldn't even be particularly rare.

Or, if/when you REALLY can't be bothered to search for one, you can just pull down the console and type "help greatsword 0 weap" (without the quotes) and then use that id for player.additem, just like with any other item.

COMPATIBILITY

The only compatibility issue worth noting is: It's an .esl file because I had too many mods otherwise. As such, it needs the game to be patched to at least 1.10 to know what to do with an .esl file. Anyone trying to report that it doesn't load in an unpatched game will be mercilessly pointed and laughed at ;)

You can try to manually rename it to .esp, but I haven't tried it myself, so no guarantees there.

Otherwise, there are no known conflicts. It doesn't change any existing game records. Unless someone happens to have picked exactly the same names and locations for the textures or scripts, it shouldn't conflict with anything.

LEGALESE

I release it in the public domain. Do with it whatever you wish. I'm not going to hound anyone for having a sword that looks historical, or anything.
