VERSION 2.21.20.20.19
SEE BOTTOM OF DESCRIPTION FOR THE NEW GOODIES

The aim of War Tapes is to make all weapons that fire bullets to sound more pronounced and enables the player to know when someone has fired a hunting rifle or a crappy pipe pistol or a 10mm pistol. I have replaced every single sound file related to weapons discharge save for silenced variants as those don't fall into my project's scope. I also didn't touch the Mr. Gutsy guns, the Sentry Bot guns or any of the turrets. Those already feel like they're pretty good. I might end up doin' them though for fun at some point.

This also aims to scratch the itch of those looking for fresh sound, something to use so one knows someone's firing a gun and maybe to tell
when something explodes. I dunno. I ain't your brain, you do you.

This sound replacement would not have seen completion for a longer period of time without the permission of LordJarhead for allowing me to
use some of his assets from his JSRS sound mod for Arma 3. His work and  the sound quality of Battlefield Bad Company 2 inspired many elements
of this overhaul.

Release version in ESL format, conversion to ESL by MookittyBonnie!

Here's all I changed:

-10mm semi and automatic have been replaced.

- The 10mm SMG weapon mod uses the 10mm semi and full auto sound sets.

-Pipe pistol and rifle discharges have been replaced.

- The Defense Gun by Yona uses the Pipe weapons set, including discharging said weapons. Does not use the full auto files.

-The Deliverer has seen a near full replacement. Discharge and reloading have been replaced entirely.

- There's a seemingly large number of handgun weapon mods that use the Deliverer sound set. They will use either the full set or just the discharge.

- The Combat Rifle and Shotgun have also seen a complete make over. Firing both weapons as well as reloading them sees new sounds. Reloading either should feel like you're actually replacing a blocky metal magazine, as well as pulling the charge handle for that first new sweet round of pain to send away.

- The Standalone M14 weapon mod uses the Combat X series weapon handling sounds.

- The "Assault Rifle" has been overhauled entirely as well, including the reloading sounds. Fun fact: there's two files for working the handle on the side, but they're not used. (Stupid Lewis look-a-like ripoff piece of shit)

-The Light Support Weapon uses the "Assault Rifle" discharge sound set.

- The .44 Revolver has seen just the discharge being replaced.

- The Hunting Rifle has had everything replaced, including the change in discharge sounds when you modify it to fire .50 BMG. Cycling the bolt and swapping mags should sound hopefully more satisfying.

- Some or most mods that touch the Hunting Rifle will not use any of the vanilla sounds. The only mod I know that uses them is The Bolt Sometime  Changes - Hunting Rifle Right-Hand Animations.

- The Minigun has had just the discharge replaced. Should be nice and loud, as one would expect a minigun to be.

- The Double Barrel Shotgun has had only the discharges replaced. Hopefully more beefy and more bang for the cap.

-The Submachinegun sees new discharge sounds. Should feel as beefy as the rounds they fire. Maybe using a mod that buffs their damage will see you using it more to hear the new sweet tunes the Submachinegun has to sing when telling the enemy to keep the change. Those filthy animals....

- Drawing and putting your weapons away have new sounds. I attempted to emphasize the sound one's weapon would make if one were to be wearing a good deal of gear. You guys are sporting gear, right? Not running around naked? That'd be awkward...

- The trail offs of all weapons, player and NPC, have been replaced. Outdoors only. I myself compliment the tails with the Reverb and Ambiance Overhaul mod to make the tails more noticeable. Maybe you might as well. (Trails being that echo or "heavy breath" some might call it that you hear after you fire a weapon)

- Frag grenades, frag mines, mini nukes, cars and artillery shells exploding should feel more satisfying. (Warlike with random tactical strikes is good for this, almost like a Shellshock Simulator)

- Vertibird nose guns have seen a change in discharge as well. They may sound a bit more like wood being hit hard with a hammer or something, but you can hear 'em better now!

- A fun extra, not really even part of this project, Vertibirds have also seen a change in engine and propeller noises. They may or may not be too loud for the tastes of some. Deleting them from SOUND/FX/OBJ/VERTIBIRD is a simple solution if you're not a fan.

It's also worth noting that while Reverb and Ambiance Overhaul is listed as a requirement, both here and the line next to it in the list will tell you this:

It is not a hard requirement. I listed it merely as a suggestion to make things more noticeable. Specifically the trail offs and such. While yes I've seen the number of bug counts, I myself have not encountered any issues at all with that mod. I can only say it probably differs user to user.

============== UPDATE INFORMATION ==============

First off, the bad news: Due to my not learning how to make things ESL format, the new version is not as fancy
as the initial release. Is this a deal breaker for some of you? Abso-friggin'-lutely. I'm sure I'll learn how to make stuff into ESL format some day.

UPDATE FEATURES

Melee with rifles and pistols has been replaced, more audible I find with some gear movement too. Aiming with irons or optics also has this treatment.

The missing three sounds that compose the final "layer" of grenades/mines exploding. Layers "C" and "D" have speed of sound simulated like the mini nuke and car explosions do.

New reverb files for when you do the bang bang shooty shoot indoors. If using RAO, then beware that it can be a bit overbearing when using weapons like
light machineguns or SMGs with large magazines. Also some single shot rifles.

Some melee impact sounds replaced, mostly pertaining to melee with rifles/pistols. Also applies to unarmed/brass knuckles conveniently enough.

Please continue to enjoy happy accidents, merry violence, absolutely domestic disputes with the neighbors up the hill and being loud!
