Changes the Adrenaline perk to actually make sense and not be an op damage buff

Introduction:

Bethesda had a good idea with the addition of Adrenaline to their Survival mode however, their implementation of it was very flawed. This mod is part of a larger mod that I'm working on to bring True Perks into Fallout 4 that will redo, balance, and add Perks, Skills (introduced by rcoll's mod Be Exceptional), and Traits to allow for more balanced RPG mechanics and immersive gameplay.

Check out my other mod: Realistic Sprinting

The Problem:

  • Adrenaline shouldn't give you a damage bonus to your guns and explosives
  • An adrenaline rush shouldn't last until you fall asleep
  • Adrenaline should realistically affect other things
  • And most importantly, Adrenaline shouldn't break the game's balance

While I can appreciate the choice and consequence that Bethesda was trying to create by tying sleeping(saving) into the Adrenaline system as the way to end the Adrenaline bonus, it wasn't realistic and doesn't work with how PC players play Survival with Autosaves. Adrenaline Redone completely reworks the Adrenaline perk and functions to address these glaring issues.

The Solution:

To address the problem of Infinite Adrenaline, I implemented the "Timed Adrenaline Drop mode" from EAGnR's mod, Adrenaline Rush, and a big thank you goes out to him/her for allowing me to reuse his/her work. Here's a description of how the timer works with the changes I've made:

- A timer will drop the player's adrenaline by 1 rank for every real-world-minute spent outside of combat for the first 4 minutes, and 2 ranks-per-minute for the following 3 minutes outside of combat. In total, it takes 7 real-world-minutes outside of combat to go from rank 10 Adrenaline down to 0.
Note that the actual time it takes to drop from Rank 10 to 0 is about 8 minutes, but that would have been a lot more difficult to explain in the bullet point above. But basically a drop occurs every 1 minute and 9.6 seconds. 7 drops, so 8 minutes and 7.2 seconds total to be exact. This was done for a balanced gameplay experience and clearly not for simplicity lol.

- Adrenaline Redone comes with an in-game Settings holotape, so if you want to adjust the time it takes for an Adrenaline Drop, you can do so there.

- In addition, the kills required per rank of Adrenaline has been reduced from 5 to 3  since there is now a timer and Adrenaline is no longer infinite.

How will this Affect Gameplay?

This seemingly short cool-down timer is to prevent  the player from being at a constant lvl 10 Adrenaline and therefore the benefits of Adrenaline won't last longer than what realistically makes sense. By reducing the required number of kills per rank of Adrenaline from 5 down to 3 the higher ranks become attainable within the relatively short timer without being too easy to reach.

These changes make Adrenaline much more realistic since it shouldn't be "hard" necessarily, to get your Adrenaline to start pumping but it also shouldn't be too easy to sustain it at lower levels, hence the 2-rank-drop per minute at ranks 6 through 1. It now takes 30 kills to reach Rank 10 of Adrenaline (instead of 50) and you gradually "cool down" the longer you're outside of combat.

All of the Changes:

  • Removed global Player Damage buff
  • Leaving combat will reduce you ranks of Adrenaline over time
  • 3 kills required for each rank of Adrenaline
  • +5% damage to unarmed, melee, and bashing attacks per rank
  • -5% AP drain from Sprinting per rank
  • -5% chance of being staggered per rank
  • -10% Max Fatigue per rank
  • -3% Incoming Damage per rank
  • +6 AP per rank
  • +10% AP Regen Rate per rank

Why These Changes?

Basically, everything that you would expect to be affected by adrenaline in real life is affected in game. It didn't make sense for you bullets and explosives to do more damage because your adrenaline went up, so I removed it. But it did make sense to do more physical damage, have more action points, to Regenerate your action points faster, to be able to take more damage, to be able to ignore your fatigue, and to have a reduced chance of being staggered.

But don't these changes favor a Melee or Unarmed Build?

Yes, as Adrenaline should! However being able to have more AP, recover AP faster, take less damage, reduce/ignore your Fatigue AP penalty, get staggered less often, and have increased bashing damage will benefit gun users as well.

These changes were made to scale and to be rewarding at higher ranks, without being unrealistic or overpowered.

Installation:

[IMPORTANT]
Put Adrenaline Redone above Survival Settings in your load order.

The timer in this mod goes off of the game's timescale. So if you're playing with a timescale of 20 (default), 10 or 6 then make sure you download the corresponding version.

[IMPORTANT]
The in-game Settings holotape currently does not work. The temporary solution if you want to change the timer settings is to install
Adrenaline Rush before my mod. I'm going to look into using the the MCM for a permanent fix.
