This mod uses ESLs. If you use NMM, please make sure it's version 0.63.17 or later:

    https://github.com/Nexus-Mods/Nexus-Mod-Manager/releases

And even if you use a version which supports ESLs, make sure the mod is actually checked in your load order. You might have to restart NMM after installing.

Vortex and MO2 users should be fine.

works just fine for me, if it doesnt work for people, mod load order is likely the problem or they dont have F4SE properly installed.

unsure if this is an actual bug or the mod just being finnicky, but I just installed it and nothing seems to work
I place the normal scrapper, power it, and place junk items into it... and nothing happens
it doesn't lock like it's said to, and there doesn't seem to be an activation button anywhere on it

Idk if you're still active but does this only for for scraps? Or will it work on weapons, armors etc?

Superb. Works perfect.  I've never bothered with this type of mod before but it makes adding components to the manufacturing machines so much easier.

    Great mod, cheers

    Works well, thanks!
Though doesn't appear to be in the Home Plate workbench menu.

The junk scrapping workbench mod I used back in 2016 is long gone, so I searched for a replacement and found multiple options on Nexus.  To aid other players in their choice, here is the following tests results and my review of 5 of them:

Note that none of these are capable of scrapping weapons or armor, and that is an issue with the game engine, not the mods. Everyone wishes this functionality existed, but it doesn’t.

    Scrapping Machine by pra
    https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/35793
Requires F4SE, works as described by author.
Pros: simple, functional. Adds two machines, “Scrapping Machine” that the player can place junk in manually one item at a time, and a “Workshop Scrapping Machine” that the player can use to scrap all junk items stored in the workbench.
Cons: No “dump all junk” with one click option for the “Scrapping Machine,” must place everything individually. No way to avoid scrapping useful junk in the workbench without pulling it out. No separate function to activate scrapping, so once you back out of the input menu, it will scrap everything placed automatically.

    Workshop Junk Grinder by Pharros
    https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/23328
Unclear if it requires F4SE based on description; I always test mods with it so I was using it. Does not work (for me) as described by author.
Pros: seems to work exactly the same as the “Scrapping Machine” part of the above mod for some players. Ultra simple and minimal (especially if it doesn’t require F4SE, which it may not.)
Cons: Many players, myself included, cannot get it to work. The Settlement Object can be created, but it requires power and refuses to connect to a generator or work right next to one. Due to this, I cannot recommend; Scrapping Machine by pra works better for the same purpose.

    Scrap-O-Tron 2000 by djxavier13
    https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/17167
F4SE not required. Works mostly as described by author, with some additional info in comments.
Pros: Has the best functionality in a single package. Only option that can transfer all junk into it (instead of into workbench first like Scrapping machine). Additional function transfers all junk except scrappable junk that is used as crafting ingredient or has a survival purpose. Placed junk can be recovered after exiting container menu since a separate function activates it. Gained components can be taken from machine or transferred to the workbench with yet another function.
Cons: Buttons will flicker and disappear with certain camera angles at close range. Limited portable use option crafted at chemistry station would have been a huge pro, except it doesn’t work quite as intended;  breeding additional kits with each use, potentially infinitely as it can be used without actually scrapping anything. The “Transfer all Junk Except…” function does require a second plugin to work with DLC-added items or to exempt vanilla items with additional Survival mode functions, but it’s not a huge deal.

    Portable Junk Recycler by Kentington
    https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/14110
F4SE not required, AFAIK. Works as described by author.
Pros: Simple, no requirements. Seems to do what it says on the tin.
Cons: Hasn’t been supported in 6 years, and there are reports of bugs by other users (which I cannot personally attest to as I only tested it in a settlement briefly. I used this years ago in tandem with another mod, I vaguely remember it working fine.)

Portable Junk Recycler Mk 2 by rux616
    https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/54138
F4SE and MCM required. Works as described by author (mostly) and still supported.
Pros: Insanely customizable. Can work identically to the original mod it was built to replace, but many additional options as well to cater to various playstyles. Various versions can be selected on install, and then virtually all options can be changed from MCM in game. Highlights for me include the option to turn off all the notifications of components added by scrapping, the ability to make it limited use or not, and 2 different crafting recipes which require simple or alternatively some very rare components to make it a real reward. Actively supported by the author who responds to almost every post on the mod page, and is working to squash bugs and polish this bad boy to perfection.
Cons: Author does say in description that this may cause problems by uninstalling since it adds some scripts to items. Uninstalling is generally not recommended for most mods though. Is a much beefier file than the original, but we’re still only talking 8 MBs in all. Requires Script Extender and MCM, but this isn’t really a downside as they (IMO) should be included in your mod list by default. Some players may be overwhelmed with the sheer amount of options but the complicated stuff can be switched off at a higher level in the menu easily. Multipliers could be a little game-breaking but are again optional, and higher loot appeals to some people. I’m nitpicking and reaching just to be as impartial as possible; these are all minor/non-issues at best.

    My thoughts:
While the Scrapping Machine has its upside and I prefer it visually, to me the clear winner for the Settlement Object versions is Scrap-O-Tron 2000. Both will receive an endorsement from me, but I’m officially recommending Scrap-O-Tron, with the caveat to avoid using its portable function entirely.
Of the Portable versions, the Mk2 is the way to go. It is supported, updated, and far less buggy. It’s functionality blows the original out of the water. Therefore it is receiving my endorsement and my official recommendation.
In my upcoming playthough, I will personally be using Scrap-O-Tron and Portable Junk Recycler Mk 2 in tandem. I plan to craft the Portable with the simple recipe as a limited use item, then craft the rare-ingredient option as infinite use down the line.

      Interesting read, thanks.

Is the "no separate scrapping option" really that much of an issue? TBH, my original thought was that you must hook the machine up to a power line, then use a workshop switch to trigger scrapping, but I found that annoying.
A "dump all junk" function should be easy-ish to do. Some way to blacklist certain scrap, probably yes as well. Could also add a portable scrapping thingy.

But, if I were to do this, I think it should be a new mod. Or, a new machine, at least, with buttons on it (this is a thing I had no clue how to do when I initially made the Scrapping Machine mod).
I was also thinking: why do these machines even require a wire? Maybe I should make them use radiant power, or no power at all.

Kinda busy with other mods right now, but, once I get around to it, how should I do it?

Bear in mind some of this is a matter of taste.  Regarding the separate scrapping option, some people may highly appreciate having one less step in the process and love that simply backing out starts it.  For me the issue is that because you can't dump it all at once, you end up button mashing to unload your junk into the machine as fast as possible, so you might end up adding something you didn't intend to scrap. If you close out of the container menu, there's no chance to go back in and save something you realized you didn't want to scrap after the fact. It's not a huge issue, the obvious solution is dumping your stuff you wish to save somewhere else first, but I prefer to be a little more meticulous about such things in general.

RE: the power issue, at first I was in total agreement that it should be powered. But the more I think about it, this and similar mods exist to add a function that frankly should have been available in the first place. Having to use up a settlement resource just to accomplish this isn't huge deal, but it is mildly punishing plus just requires dealing with another power line all for the sake of convenience. If you keep having it require power, I think radiant power is for sure the way to go.

Now, I am not saying you SHOULD do this, but an interesting alternative occurred to me last night: what if it was a workstation that required an assigned settler to activate the scrapping function?  Might be even more punishing but it is also kind of logical that it would take a worker to actually dissamble things and salvage the useful bits than just a big tumbling machine breaking everything apart.  It's more complicated and probably way more difficult to mod, but I just wanted to hear your thoughts on it.

If you genuinely want to make a new mod, go for it.  I am not asking you to do that; remember that I think yours works pretty fine as is and you did earn my endoresement.  I appreciate you taking the time to respond and thanks for your hard work for the community; I'm working on transitioning to contributing to the community more myself instead of just enjoying the fruits of others' labor.

I use multiple mods for scrapping including this, the Portable Junk Recycler Mk2 mentioned, and the scrap option on the Mobile Mechanic and Compact Crafting benches by Fadingsignal (he makes tons of great content). All great options and all have their niche uses, all function ESLified, I wouldn't get rid of any of them.

"Note that none of these are capable of scrapping weapons or armor, and that is an issue with the game engine, not the mods. Everyone
wishes this functionality existed, but it doesn’t."

The manufacturing mod(better manufacturing or manufacturing extended) adds machines that scrap weapons, armor, ammo, and mods. So it can't be an engine thing. The problem with them is they are so slow, they scrap a few items then have to spit out the scrap one at a time. When that is done it scraps some more.

Yes, it is an engine thing.

There are 2 things which you can do with equipment:
      1. Disassemble it, by removing all object modifications. Requires F4SE, and will give you a bunch of loose mods, and either the most basic version of the weapon, or something invalid
      2. Create a huge lookup list, where, for every single weapon or piece of armor in the vanilla game, the DLCs, in any and all mod which your users might nag you about, you put in what scrap it would yield.

The thing which isn't possible, is to replicate what happens when you drop a weapon or armor on the floor, and then use workshop mode to scrap it. Or when you use a weapon or armor workbench, and scrap equipment from there. This cannot be done in vanilla, and, to my knowledge, there hasn't been any functional implementation in F4SE*.

I suspect there are mods which do the second approach (the description of them being slow sounds about right), but I'm not going to do that. I am not going to add hardcoded support for hundreds of equipment mods. If I can't do something in a generalized manner, I'm not going to do it.

      ____
      * I remember reading about someone actually trying to do this in a F4SE DLL, but it was very crash-prone, and wasn't ever released...

This is brilliant. Just like the enchantment/stolen item cleanser in Skyrim, a must have for hoarders!

It is not working. I connected the power, added junk, it makes the "ding" sound, but the junk is still in there, no special activation possible. I use Vortex and F4SE is installed and active.

Absolutely amazing functionality, I especially love the alternate machine for converting everything in the workshop inventory! One of the hidden mod gems that took me years to find, wish I had found it sooner! Works with all my mod-added materials even.
