Compact, lightweight and unassuming, one wouldn't expect much out of what basically amounts to a bent remote control, but what it lacks in an imposing profile it more than makes up for in sheer power.

Used prolifically by Starfleet's finest through the 2370's, the hand phaser lacks any of the ungainly accoutrements its predecessors possessed. No external power packs, type 1 phasers or extra dials. Just three buttons, a muzzle and a curved handgrip. Powered by an advanced power cell, the phaser can put out enough power to vaporize just about everything it hits, but it doesn't start off that way.

The phaser has 16 settings and starts at Level 1, which deals the least damage and stuns enemies. Levels 2 through 4 do progressively more damage with a longer stun duration, before the phaser gets into kill settings, which are 5-8. Here, the phaser's damage continues to increase. At Level 9, the phaser begins doing more damage and also begins dealing additional critical damage, and foes slain by a crit will vaporize. Things start getting real at Level 13. Here, the damage reaches exceptional levels and targets will begin to vaporize with increasing frequency until setting 16, at which point the phaser is at its most powerful and will vaporize any foe unlucky enough to get hit by the beam. These settings can't be changed at a workbench, instead they can only be changed on the fly via items added to the Aid category in your inventory, once the weapon's equipped. When you change a setting, the indicator lights on the top of the phaser will change to indicate which setting you're on, and the naming of the phaser will change as well to reflect its current power level. The only thing that can be modified at a workbench is the phaser's holosight. The phaser has a base damage of 50 in both physical and energy, but it only has this base damage at setting 8; it'll be less or more depending on which setting level is used.

The phaser also comes with its own proprietary ammo, which is added to your inventory when the phaser's equipped. However it might not always appear, but fortunately (as of 1.1), the phaser will regenerate its ammo, up to a max of 200 shots, and does so fairly quickly.

There's only one phaser extant in the Commonwealth, and to find it you need to venture into the Glowing Sea and locate Sentinel Site Prescott. The phaser is found within near the corpse of a member of the Children of Atom. You can make new phasers at a chem lab, under the PHASER category, but it requires you to have found the original on top of the material and perk (Science 4) requirements.

Installation

Download the mod manually or via NMM. For the former, extract the files to your Data folder and enable through a mod manager or the in-game mods menu. For NMM, download the mod through it and activate it after the download finishes.

Disable the mod either through a mod manager or the in-game mods menu. If desired, delete the .esp and BA2 files from your Data folder.

Known Issues
============


Not everything may be added to your inventory when you equip the weapon for the first time, for me at least the only thing that is is the setting item for raising the power levels. If you raise the phaser's power level it should add the power reduction item. Dropping the phaser, picking it back up and re-equipping it may also work.

When you change the setting level the phaser basically gets re-equipped, so every time you go up or down the phaser will disappear then come right back. This is just how the game behaves when it comes to adding modifications via script, as such this isn't necessarily a bug but worth noting down here.
