Pipe weapons were made BEFORE the war. There is a guns and bullets magazine that features a pipe weapon on the cover, they are just homemade weapons that paranoid people made.
That may be true, but a lot of the locations affected by this are offices and professional establishments. As the description says, "...that locked safe behind the Police Chief's desk". We're talking about locations where improvised weapons are simply not appropriate, regardless of whether they existed at the time or not.
Agreed with Thecheetahlionswag. The years before the apocalypse were ones of civil resistance and martial law. People used pipe guns the way zipguns were used by resistance forces in WW2.
Moreover you have a 200 year window in which a pipe gun could have been placed in there by any scavver or raider looking for a safe spot and never came back to it. The same goes for jet.
Therefore the only thing breaking """immersion""" is your own overly-pedantic and nitpicky sensibilities
Loving all the bethesdrones who have to justify the fact that the company doesn't give a single crap about the lore. 76 has X-01 armor and super mutants, did a raider go back in time and just drop those off?
Pipe weapons are pre war. That's canon. They were used during uprising shortly before the great war. There is even a pre war magazine that includes guides on how to build weapons on your own.
"The game is set in America", a country known for its vast amount of ressources, like oil, uranium, coal, gas, wood etc. But completely "ludicriously" before the great war those ressources were hard to come by...
Full disclosure, the existence of pipe weapons is kinda canon, though the way the game peppers them around all pre-war safes wouldn't be. The hyperinflation of the late Pre-War America meant that buying guns would be impossible for most people, while the BADTFL actively tried to limit the access of civilians to any and all forms of weaponry (consider that this is around the same time the food riots are going on), which meant that most of the guns available to the civilians were pretty much homemade pipe guns. What isn't canon is the way they're everywhere, including fucking police stations, corporate security safes, military checkpoints and the Boylston Club.
All it takes for something to be canon is for the property holder to say "this is how it is", but things that are canonical can still beggar belief, such as why makeshift weapons would be ubiquitous somewhere like pre-war America given how easy it would've been for people to get ahold of a proper gun.
Feel like some duffle bags and suitcases should have pre-war items in 'em Like the ones that are close to pre-war skeletons, or that are still inside certain ruined houses or buildings around the commonwealth or far harbor
This is a great idea. Ant chance you could expand this to include all post-war item? Like finding bloat-fly meat and bottle caps in safes and per-war containers?
Ya this Mod is OK ! But What if Someone allready cleared the prewar safe, and put a pipe pistol or rifle inside for safekeeping and locked it again ??? So stop saying that it breakes immersion couse it does not !!
I would download this, but it's not unreasonable that the safe could have been cracked and relocked for most if not all of the safes in the wasteland. It has been a couple centuries, after all. It's not like all of these spaces have been untouched. Would explain why there are caps in the safes as well. I assume that every house or living space has been lived in at the VERY least twice more since the war. So it makes perfect sense why that stuff would be locked in there to me, and the owner was long since killed and never made it back to claim the stuff.

BTW, the game is set in America, and to think weapons were so hard to come by--in America--that folks had to strap pipes to two by fours is ludicrous.
