Pack mule? You mean like a full blown A10? Even the A10 is actually slowed down due to the recoil of that gun, lol. A pack mule would be sent flying, lmao. :-D

I think the A10's gun shoos 20mm rounds which are FAR larger than what a minigun fires. They actually refer to it as a "rotary cannon" not a "gun". I've read it's about the size of a Volkswagen beetle.

Think only russia uses 7.62mm or .308 for gatts. Nato gatt and american minigun use 5.56mm. That was at least while i was in Army 97 to 07. I havent had to keep track of things like that for over a decade so forgive me if things are different :)

The M134 , THE minigun, is chambered for 7.62x51mm, aka .308; you must be thinking of the XM214 Microgun, which is chambered in 5.56.

Second what aces said, plus, Russia does not use .308... That's an American round, and the NATO equivalent is the 7.62x51mm. Russia's 7.62mm rounds are 7.62x39mm which is what is typically seen in the older style AK rifles, the newer ones typically fire the 5.45x39mm round. Or they have the 7.62x54mm round used by medium-ranged marksman rifles like the SVD Dragunov. No, that's not a sniper rifle and no, despite being a longer round overall the 7.62x54mm is not a more accurate round than the 7.62x51mm. I know, here comes all of the Russia-loving keyboard warriors to proclaim that everything Russia makes is better blah blah blah...

Think you could make a version that uses the 7.62 mm ammo? Since they can be used pretty much interchangeably. And also since it is more common and I like to save my .308 ammo for my sniper :)

I hate to be the voice of reason in this discussion, since I *never* have enough .308 ammo, and 7.62 is almost as hard to come by...

But the ammo scarcity system in Fallout is designed to make the player hoard ammo and count the value of every shot fired. If the higher-damage ammo becomes as casually plentiful as 5mm ammo is, it cheapens the value of the experience, and makes the game more of a cakewalk.

What about a custom minigun instead of a replacer? Or even an upconversion in the workbench for the standard minigun? The easiest explanation for why has to do with the Fallout universe being different from our own, and thus choosing a small-caliber ammunition for their miniguns. Meanwhile, a detachment in Alaska retools a minigun to use larger rifle ammunition, and saves the information to a handful of blueprints. Fortunately, Nate was one of those working on the project, and in the last 200 years, someone pilfered it from the house and put it in the underground bunker in that other house nearby. Grab the blueprint, add an upconversion for the standard 5mm minigun, and enjoy!
