About this mod
Like a lot of people I liked the NCR Ranger Combat Armor ("black armor") from New Vegas and I know people have already remade it for Fallout 4 but I wanted to create my own version with my own twist on the design. Thus the NCR Desert Raven Armor was born.

What is this and What does it do?
I liked the NCR Ranger Combat Armor ("black armor") from New Vegas and I wanted to create my own version with my own twist on the design. Thus the NCR Desert Raven Armor was born.
Notes:
- The NCR Desert Raven Armor comes in 3 parts, the Armor itself, a helmet and a set of gloves all able to be crafted at the Chem Bench under NCR Desert Raven
- Both the Helmet and the Armor provide energy resistance, physical resistance and radiation resistance.
- ALL parts of the outfit are available to BOTH genders.
- The Armor uses ONLY slot 33 (Body slot), that means that both Underarmor and Armor items can be worn with it.
- The Helmet uses slots 30, 31, 32, 46, 47, 48, 49 (aka Hair Top, Hair Long, Face Gen Head, Headband, Eyes, Beard and mouth slots)
- The Gloves use slots 34,35 (Left and right hand slots)
- The Duster does have cloth physics but it will sometimes clip into the floor in certain poses
- Also the lower part of the Duster is flared out (for dramatic effect, it looks cool that way) however due to that when sitting in chairs/on benches the bottom of the Duster can look a bit poofy like a hoop skirt. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
- Bodyslide files are available as an optional (manual) download. Readme instructions are included. Female version included in Main File is a about halfway between Vanilla and CBBE (person preference as I found the full CBBE shape far too thin looking for this particular armor set.)
Upgrades:
- Both the helmet and the armor are able to be upgraded using ballistic weave and legendary effect mods (provided you have a mod that allows you to add legendary mods to other items).
Helmet Vision Upgrades:
The helmet has 5 different optional "vision" upgrades that are activated by sneaking*:
These modes are:
- +Night Vision - Similar to Vanilla Night Vision except that it does not have that annoying radial blur effect around the screen edges and it does have a "detect Hostile" mode built in that highlights enemies (note this effect works based on line of sight, it does not highlight enemies through obstacles.)
- +Thermal Vision - a lightly red tinted vision mode that boosts color contrast and boasts a "detect life" mode built in that highlights ALL living things including turrets and robots and the highlights are visible through obstacles.
- +Life Detect - Highlights all living things including robots and turrets (same effect as Thermal but without the red tint or contrast boost)
- +Hostile Detect - Highlights all enemies based on line of sight (same effect as Night Vision but without the desaturation or contrast boost)
- +Recon - When using sights on a weapon marks enemies with a compass pip and/or orange diamond above their heads
Both Night Vision and Thermal Vision are adaptive meaning what the light level is around your character determines whether the effect activates. That way while sneaking around during the day or in lit interiors won't have you blinded...most of the time anyway. While I did tweak the conditions to operate as well as I could there are a ton of lighting/weather/ENB mods out there that will alter the lighting conditions. The activation effect is determined by where your character is currently crouched not where they are currently looking. Also the light from the Pipboy is strong enough to turn off the screen effects too.
And even if the Night Vision/Thermal Vision effect isn't active due to surrounding light the Life/Hostile detect is always active on those upgrades as long as the player is sneaking. I added the Life/Hostile Detect as separate upgrades as well for people who would prefer to use them without the screen effects of Night/Thermal Vision.
*technically 4 as Recon is activated by aiming at enemies down the gun sights instead
