Please do let me know if you encounter any issues following the guide - while I did run through it a few times to make sure, I didn't really have anyone who could test it for me.
I did a thing with your tutorial and kala's add-on instructions. (Made it awhile ago but just got around to releasing.) I was already somewhat familiar with the CK so your instructions were really easy to follow. It was something I always wanted to be able to do in my game without a ton of futzing around with renaming textures etc. So thanks so much. <3
glad you found it useful! i always meant to release a framework that people could just drop textures into but life really got in the way, so it's nice to see someone else making that available.
Trying to take some agency in my modding so tysm for the education. I want to take an existing .json Looksmenu preset another modder made but replace the skin texture with a different one. Am I in the right place for that?
No, i don't require this for my project, nor i have tested. I just use the cbbe head rear fix and it works fine. I had similar to the issue you mention(maybe), not only for the rear, but the whole bottom of the neck. Like a gap between the head and the body. That happen when i load certain face presets in LooksMenu while using Atomic Beauty as body. CBBE worked fine with same presets. Quick fix was to adjust the body triangle until this gap was minimal/barely visible. AB is a bit weird and that "fix" can lead to clipping issues with outfits. I know it's not exaclty texture or head part related, just thought it's worth a mention.
Since you mentioned it too, i found another temporary fix to minimize the gaps. It involves minor editing to the file of the face preset. I have posted explanation in the Bugs section of AtomicB, look for Neck Seam.
You have to create a head rear entry in head part. You can copy paste the one from vanilla and replace the rear texture with the body texture. After that you have just to add the rear entry in your looksmenu skin override file.
This tutorial was incredibly helpful, and was very user friendly to follow. Thanks a lot for creating this! :)
I know it has been addressed already, but regarding the overrides reverting to the default body is there any consistent fix?
In testing I found that at least 90% of the time, you need to go back into the Looksmenu and re-apply the skin after a save file reload. It's hard to replicate, but consistently I found that to replicate the bug you need to: (Select Skin>Save>Die>Save>Exit Game>Reload). I read that wearing full-body armors can help resolve the bug, but this seems to be of mix results. I'm guessing outfits are the best solution?
unfortunately whatever seems to be causing the overrides to revert is something within the looksmenu code so there's really nothing I know about it. If you want to guarantee it sticks, so to say, your best bet is custom outfits.
Very interesting, but I have a question. This is juste a performance question
By example, if you use a default cbbe body texture and now add a skin overlay ingame, do the engine has to draw 2 bodies textures, one over the other, or draw just the overlay and skip the base texture?
Because drawing two entire body texture certainly take more time than drawing just one Else the possibility of overriding skin ingame is just ideal
I did not create the override system so I cannot answer this. all I know is that overrides and overlays are two separate functions and I have written my guide for overrides.
What exactly is the use for this? I saw it mentioned in a post while on my search; I was trying to find out if you can have different CBBE skins at once or if it was a one only thing because I had bodyslide outfits and they all didnt have any clipping. Downloaded some player / follower presets and then noticed 2 in particular outfits (that I already tried in game) had spots of clipping that weren't there before. Still trying to find out what my problem is lol (edit: nvm I see the use) still.. does anyone know If I can have multiple different skin types for different NPC's and different character presets? I know unique player but I'm more thinking along the lines of lets say for example. One of my presets uses oni skin, and another preset uses silky smooth skin. Is it an issue to have both skins installed at the same time?
So here's a good one. I've been having fun creating custom skin textures for my player character and some NPC's. Gives them a personalized look. However, I have a hard time getting the skin overlay to stay throughout more than a single game session, it seems. It looks great when it works, but once I quit and go back into the game, I have to go into SLM and apply is all over again. Is this normal behavior, or did I miss something in the creation process?
That's a looksmenu issue, unfortunately. Sometimes you just gotta strip down to your skivvies and get dressed again and that can prompt it to reappear. Sometimes the overlay gets taken off and sometimes it just needs to be refreshed. If it's the latter, taking off any fullbody outfits will prompt it to show up again. If that doesn't work, yeah the SLM > reapply needs to be done.
Ah! Well, good to know! Thank you for answering that mystery. Trying to get answers on the LooksMenu board is like calling tech support, so I totally appreciate you taking the time to answer a problem that's not even yours!
I recently started using overlays myself and was having this issue too...can't say for certain what's causing it. Seems to happen when you use power armor or a body covering item like the hazmat suit. Hope a fix pops up sometime in Looksmenu or something
I play "dress-up dolly" enough between my player and NPCs that I finally got annoyed enough with it and mashed all my custom textures and face edits into my own home-brewed Unique Player and Followers mod. This guide, along with the Face Ripper guide on exporting your character to an .esp helped immensely, but basically it's the same idea as Unique Player. I do still keep the overlays and presets just in case I make a change so ridiculous or extreme I need to reset them, or I need to use it to quickly create a dummy doppelganger for storytelling purposes (I do a lot of screenshots and it's infinitely easier to pose an NPC than it is the actual player). So, it's like having a nice backup of someone's face nearby.
There was a movie about that. I think it was called Trading Faces with John Travolta and Nick Cage.
(I know the real title was Face Off, but I like mine better.)

Thanks for this really opened up customized chars with a fraction of the work...
I'm alone to have this problem?
Thank
edit: ok, from other post it's a looksmenu bug
Then it seem more stable to continue to use different races

Hope you're doing well. Stay safe!
