The old Cult of Ape server has been resurrected: https://discord.gg/mXpj4VJPqq Don´t expect as much support or as much community as in the old days. I have a baby now, people have moved on to other servers. I will try to support as much as I can, but it´s still early days, and things are likely to be broken. You´re invited to help out, it´s always been about community for me!
I´ve started updating the modlist. It will take a while because I have a baby to care for now, but I´m really dedicated to getting this done within a month, and then recommence work on my NPC overhauls mod.
If you´ve used this guide before, you know what you´re in for.
If you´re new. this is not a collection, will never be a collection. This is hardcore old skool modding, that will probably take you days to complete - beware! There are other more stable modlists out there.
I´m doing this for the challenge, for the fun, and for the community. Check out the newly resurrected Discord server here: https://discord.gg/mXpj4VJPqq
alpha 1 has seen no serious testing, it´s freshly baked and meant as a start for playtesting starting this weekend.
For those of you doing alpha 2, skip the real.ai mod for now. It turns out it might cause issues with quests, so I´m going to see if I can solve that with a patch.
thank you for creating this extensive guide. I had a quick glance over your new R6 alpha 1 document, and your list has almost everything included what i like to see. There are some mods i don't see, like 'Flashy(JoeR) Advanced Needs 76' , but I might be able to add it myself. About adding more mods, at what plugin count (not eslified) are you already? ....And i didn't see any merges. Are there no mods which could be merged, or are You just not yet at the merging stage?
I´m at 552 plugins so far :) There´s still a ways to go until it can be considered somewhat stable. Advanced Needs is an interesting one, but I´ve gotten used to vanilla survival with some modifications, and I worry about the added scriptload and a modlist this big. We´ll see..I used to do merges but stopped as soon as flagging esps as esl became possble. I just got weary of having to redo merges everytime I changed something. To each their own, this works for me. I reckon a lot of the plugins in the fixes section could be merged, I might revisit merges in the future. We´ll see.
Thanks for Your answer. I'm really interested in this but i really like to know, how many not-eslified plugins there are in the guide. I mean, how close are you to the 256 esp/esm limit? Or to ask the other way around, how many plugins can i add in addition to the guide added plugins.
BTW coming from "MOFAM - An Advanced Guide and Modlist for Fallout 4" and having added A LOT OF MODS to that guide I am currently at 539 active plugins with already 250 esm/esp plugins, so I'm already really close to the limit.
But since there are a lot of updates of mods which require a new game, i'm really considering to start from scratch and go with your guide this time.Or maybe a combination of the two guides.
Praise FO4Edit, zEdit, ZMerge and Synthesis.....
AND...I'm not questioning your choices of mods, or the direction of your guide or your practice of merging or not merging. This is your guide, and you are the boss.
Well, I hadn´t checked in a while, but I´m apparently at 251 without the ESL-flagged plugins, so not much room for more :) Honestly, only do this list right now if you´re willing to endure a prolonged alpha process, which is likely going to be a while, at least one more month, while I´m assessing mods and playtesting. I´m going very slowly, and I´m working on my own NPC overhaul mod at the same time. But it sounds like you have some experience in xedit, so that´s good news :)
for those not in Discord, playtesting is slowly going on.I have a baby these days, so I can get in about an hour an a half each day. There are some issues, mostly flickering and clipping that we´ll solve first by load order, and if that´s not possible by rebuilding pre-combines. Synths at Arcjet are way too owerpowered for somewhat early game, I´m about 10 hrs in, not rushing it.. Will look into that. Loot is too much too, will look at eventually.
I'm confused about the .ini section. All you say is "copy/paste the below values". Does that mean I should replace all of the original values with the lines you provided in the guide? Or do I keep the original values and add the new ones, so that I have both?
Firstly thank you to Ape for this incredible extensive guide, I can't imagine the amount of time and effort it took to create this, and the amount of people it has helped!
I'm trying this guide for the first time, as a semi-experienced modder (usually just through dumping mods into NMM) but I'm trying this guide with MO2 this time, which I used for FNV and managed ok with. And I want to better my understanding of modding in general. With that, I am having some difficulties on the texture sections, I tried to join the discord invite to ask there, but it says "unable to accept invite" not sure if it no longer exists or if it's a me problem. Anyway, without being able to post in there I wondered if anyone could help;
Section: TEXTURE OVERHAULS AND OPTIMIZATION
It states to "Extract the below texture overhauls into the “patched files” subfolder, overwrite when prompted." My first question is, do I download all of the listed textures through 'Manual Download' or do I use MO2? (at present I have donwloaded them all manually and extracted the files into the "patched files" subfolder, but none of these mods exist within my MO2 profile, will that cause an issue?)
Secondly, it states that "After having extracted the texture packs into the PatchedFiles folder, you wll have 3 subfolders(Materials, Meshes and textures)", I hand picked out some of the textures that I wanted and left some out that I didn't want, and I am now only left with the following subfolders;
materials textures
I assume the meshes subfolder would have come from a texture pack that I decided not to install?
This is what my current MO2 profile looks like at this stage of the guide. Should all the texture files be here also?
I hope I've been clear enough, let me know if I need to provide any other info. ?
Thanks in advance to anyone that may be able to provide some guidance. Apologies if this is a noob question, I've only just started to delve a bit deeper into modding so I'm still learning.
1) Manual, then extract all of them to the patched files folder in your workbase. Launch archive2 in your workbase, open the .ba2-files then extract them one by one (Archive/Extract) to your patchedfiles folder (If it won't extract, what I did was make a new folder, extract them there then after I was done extracting, I took the textures folder out and removed everything)
2) You only need the textures folder in your patchedfiles (page 27, it should look something like that)
Edit: 2 days now since I started following the guide so far, so good (currently at New Quests and Locations). Hope my answers were clear or well, if you already figured it out, happy modding :)
Hello! I've been following this guide for a while and had thought about upgrading to the latest version to start a new game with all the new mods that will have come out and such. To my surprise I found that the guide and its threads are no longer on the Discord server, what happened?
A lot of things happened. I lost my job, moved countries and my laptop started to overheat and shut down when playing the game. I didn´t have any money to buy a laptop, so I got increasingly depressed with the guide and deleted my entire install. I still don´t have money for a new laptop, so I´m just playing without ENB now, and that´s ok with me. There are more important things to me in a game.
I´m sorry if people were disappointed with this. I promised and couldn´t deliver. I´m trying to rectify that now.
This mod guide is EXACTLY what I was looking for! Tried my hand at it myself a while back and failed, but this reflects exactly what I wanted! Thanks for all the hard work!
I'm towards the end of the guide, though, where the community patches, conflict resolution, gameplay tweaks, and miscellaneous replacers are. Unfortunately, I cannot see them in the file archive. Is there any other way to access them?
I have the same Graphics card as you. I was back dating the Drivers too, but I found a better way. I found a mod "Fallout 4 Vulkan Renderer" and installed it. I have not crashed in months due to the Graphics card.

PS, yours have the Transfers Settlement (R5.5 Beta 4).
