About this mod
Fort Hagen seems to cause problems for a lot of people during the quest Reunion. Constant CTDs can prevent the main quest from progressing. This mod is a work around for those crashing once they exit Fort Hagen via the elevator. It re-positions the terminal used to exit the Fort Hagen roof.
- Permissions and credits
The mod simply moves the console to the wall of the concrete guard shack on the road to Fort Hagen. In my extremely limited testing this seems to be far away enough to allow the console to be accessed without triggering the crash. Using the console will trigger the Prydwen to spawn and start the Shadow of Steel quest normally.
This is a *very quick and dirty mod*. I literally just went in to the GECK, grabbed the most suspicious object that seemed like it would trigger the quest, and moved it to a different location.
DO NOT USE THIS MOD WITHOUT MAKING A HARD SAVE
This has not been extensively tested. It is alpha 0.1. You should use it only as a last ditch measure to rescue your save file if you have no other option. Please report back if it works for you. You can also report back if it explodes your game, or if you can think of a better way to solve this problem.
To sum up
Problem: Fallout IV (Or Fallout IV VR) is crashing when I attempt to exit Fort Hagen after fighting Kellogg during the quest Reunions
Solution:
1. Kill Kellogg. Complete all dialog. Go to the exit elevator but do not use the elevator.
2. Hard save your game
3. Drop the .esp file in to your /data folder
4. Activate the .esp
5. Load your game
6. Open the console (with ~) and type "COC FiddlersGreenExt". Press enter, then hit ~ again to close the console
7. The game will teleport you to the Fiddler's Green trailer park. Look north up the road. You should be able to see the concrete guard shack from where you teleported in.
8. Run up to the guard shack and use the console sticking awkwardly out of the wall.
9. Watch the Prydwen fly overhead in all it's glory.
10. Save your game
11. You may optionally deactivate and delete the .esp now. The terminal should go back to where it was and everything should continue normally as though you were playing a game with consistent and thorough QA and no progression breaking bugs
12. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP: Report back here whether the fix worked for you so other people will know.
DISCLAIMER: I do not know what I am doing. You should not trust me with your save game. This is a last ditch workaround to rescue a save that is otherwise borked. I cannot provide you with troubleshooting or support if this does not work.
That said, I hope it does work. I found this glitch 20 hours in to the game and was worried I'd have to restart. I found a way to fix things and I wanted to make it available for others to try.
NOTE: If you can't get in to Fort Hagen in the first place you can use the console command "COC FortHagen01" to move yourself inside the Fort Hagen cell. This worked for me, though other people have reported that they crash once inside, too.
